I was into POGS when they were popular. I had a whole canister of those things. They were popular in the early and mid 90's I think. I remember those MAGIC the Gathering cards game being popular in the 90's as well

MTG is still popular, I have a buddy whose main source of income is from selling old collectable MTG cards.
He can make 3-5 k in a weeks time if he feels like it just cause he has so many cards saved up from back in the day.

I used to fuck with pogs back in elementary school, but I sucked at the game cause I only ever played with my older brothers and they left me in the dark on how to really play so they could take advantage of my ignorance and steal all my pogs :emocry:

I used to play Magic during college, but lost interest with Scourge. Literally lost interest in the game with that generation.

But recently I found out Magic is bigger than ever... there was a documentary by Vice a few years ago on YouTube. There's also a documentary of it on Netflix.

I wish they'd do a reality TV show on the top Magic players and Yu-Gi-Oh! players and eSports players. Docs about those are always fascinating.

If you still have your old cards you can sell them for top dollar.
Even some plainjane mana cards will sell for $100+ easily.

The oldest cards I had were from the Odyssey days, so I don't think those are gonna go for much at all. I know the ones people are collecting are the super OG cards that are completely broken.

And anyway, my grandma threw it away. I had a RG Threshold deck and an unbeatable Turboland deck with all my most valuable cards, but one day they just dropped off from the face of the Earth. I thought they were misplaced, but after looking for it for years, and moving multiple times, they never turned up. The only answer is that my grandma threw it away, because she was staying with us at the time they disappeared. My grandma was notorious for throwing everything in the trash.

Ironically, she didn't throw away any of my miscellaneous crap cards. Just my two prized decks.

maybe if it's alpha/beta/unlimited.  otherwise, you're lying.

i unfortunately sold all my cards during one of the slumps when MTG was losing ground and cards were greatly devalued.  I had so much beta/unlimited/revised/urza's block and foils.  tons of others too, the Dark, visions, 4th.

i stopped playing around urza's destiny, and only bought a few packs of that, even.

You all are so cute.
You’ll don’t even know how crazy MTG finance is, especially now.
The market is exploding, if you have any extra money, invest.
I saw five figures of growth in my collection just in the month if June alone.

If any of you have any reserve list mtg cards horded away I will buy them from you right now at its buylist value no questions asked.
As much as you’re willing to sell I’m paypal ready to buy.
Now is a good time to sell too because the market is starting to see some retracing to where it was before the chaos of GP Vegas in mid June.

i had a beta savannah pulled from a sealed pack, as well as a foil Radiant Archangel pulled from a sealed pack.  both IMMEDIATELY put into holders.  The Savannah sold for ~$90 in 2004, and the Archangel for ~$125 also in 04.

that was a bad time for MTG, as they were mass-producing super shitty sets every 2 months

Damn, I’d give you 600 no questions asked for the savannah right here today.
Easily would be willing to pay a grand to twelve hundred depending on quality.
Meanwhile I wouldn’t pay over $40 for the angel.

Crazy how times change.

yea

i think you're over-exaggerating quite a bit.  prices on ebay aren't that much different for a lot of the unlimited/revised/4th edition choice cards.  and most of those are only buy it now options, very few bidders/buyers paying those prices.

Dark ball lightnings are still $10-15 (they were $8-10 when i played from 97-02), beta demonic tutors are cheap as fuck.  hippies, cursed scrolls, birds, etc...

a fool and her money......

I invest purely in reserve list cards and alpha/beta rares.
The growth seen on these cards is incredible,
sure the growth of modern stables seem stagnant.
But I mean just look at the price of Underground sea over the past 6 months.

Also, beta Demonic Tutor is a $400 card....

Yeah, that sounds about the time Scourge came around. The Threshold decks and counterspell decks were awesome. And then came fuckin Astroglide which was the most boring motherfuckin deck but basically the RG Threshold killer. And it just went to shit from there.
