Why?

I dump my jars (contam or not) and then run through the dishwasher. The next time you load and PC it, it will kill whatever was in it before. No need to sterilize glassware to kill old mold to then sterilize it again with substrate in it.

I used to get really paranoid and take a bucket with some bleach, water, and dish soap and wash them outside after dumping them. Then wash the bucket before I brought it back in the house.

Do you guys throw jars that had nastys in the PC before using them again?

No that shit sounds straight up retarded. Would you sterilize moldy bread, cheese, produce, or any other food before tossing? No.
Most house plants are full of green mold in the soil so unleashing some spores into your house is pretty moot, especially if you've ever opened a window or a door.
Waste a PC cycle just to kill some mold in jars is beyond asinine in my opinion

I only started doing because trusted people here were telling me I was stupid for not doing it like a year ago... I won't embarrass anyone by naming names

But I don't understand in general why people freak out about contam'd subs taking over their grow room, etc.... Has this actually happened to anyone, like for sure it was a contamed tub spreading around and not just you had a bunch of contam problems in your spawn? Bc I've let trich tubs flush out right in my grow space with all my tubs, SAB and everything and it has never "taken over my grow op"

Not everything is like trich. Try dealing with Verticillium

A broken chunk of sub molding at the bottom of a tub contamed the shoebox subs that were in there. Decomposers know how to get around. Dont underestimate spores. Especially ones that germ on myc.
I Make sure to wash my clothes and take a shower immediately after I dump moldy jars. I dont want to even go into my grow room until i do

But if mold spores are already in the air everywhere, and healthy myc is resistant to them, then how is this an issue?

If you have to shower and wash clothes and all that shit, personally I'd rather just bring a PC up to pressure which takes 10min and shut if off.

Spore loads

A tub of mycelium fighting off 10,000 mold spores a day is going to be different than fighting off 10,000,000 mold spores because a contaminated tub is sporulating right next to it

10 mins? It takes 40 mins about to get my presto 23qt PC to 15psi from start. Then 30 mins to cool down. That’s at least an hour.

Well I haven't seen trich jump tubs ever :justdontknow:

I don't use a 23qt for something like this.. I use a small PC which doesn't take long at all. And no venting required. All you really need to do is get the jar real hot not actually doing a full PC sterilization here. In any case I'll stop doing this if its not necessary

Ive been growing as long as ive been a member. In that time ive only pc'd one jar. The rest have just been dumped. Yet this is the most trich ive had post spawn https://files.shroomery.org/files/18-28/149524868-15314951394537506610318334417437.jpg

So what's your argument here? I don't really care about PCing jars and I'm not arguing for it. Like I said I've given it up as of now

What I am wondering about is this idea that contam'd subs can overtake your space, which I don't see being supported much

How would you even know this is your problem vs you have a bunch of spawn issues?

My goal to do something myco related every day is taking form.

The clone I took was a little too big, and I let the Xacto sit too long over the tourch. It was a little hot to work with. Whatever, this is just practice.

I'll probably do a practice LC once I clean it up. Maybe fuck with PF tek for fruiting.

Anything before or during the first flush I chalk up to spawn. Anything after i assume its due to spore load. I know that mold can spread from tub to tub because trich cab germinate on myc and air in your chamber isnt still (atleast it shouldnt be)

I can accept this as likely... but a weakened, already flushed tub succumbing to spores is a far cry from infecting your whole space & ruining your grow, isn't it?

Look up mushroom_therapy and read his posts and main threads from last year. Perfect example of why not to keep moldy shit around or spawn questionable jars

In a small space how high can the co2 in the room get before it's too much? I ran a meter in the room and it was 1850 ppm.
