why
    #2537669 - 04/08/04 01:51 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

What's real? Are these words real? What is the yard stick for realism and delusion? Who can say what is true? Why is time non existent? Why is this demension vibrating at the pace it is to produce outcome in the course of events as things have transpired? Why do seeming superficial things have deeper meaning that reveal insight into the psyche? I know, do you?

>What is the yard stick for realism and delusion? Who can say what is true?
-The individual can not discern between a perception and a hallucination. To tell if something is caused by an external phenomenon or if it was a purely internal event, you need collaboration with another individual. Generally, If what you experienced was caused by external phenomenon the other person should agree with you on all points. If it was a purely internal event, the other person will not concur.
Who can say what is true? Neither of us alone can do it, but by cross-checking what our percieved truths we can approach some validity.

>Why is time non existent?
-Not everyone believes that. The question, then, is why do you believe it doesn't?

>Why do seeming superficial things have deeper meaning
-People will find support for things they already believe.

>I know, do you?
-I know I was the only one who bothered to think seriously on these questions... so please think seriously on my answers.

I had written almost these same exact words in my reply, but I will explain why I decided to leave it out upon revision.

I had originally said something along the lines of:
>Are these words real?
-I see them, and others seem to as well. This is a good indication that the words do indeed exist.

I ommited it because it lead easily to an arguement where I'd have to support ALL of my statements based on my ability to prove that I exist. Any point I could have made would have been promptly lost in the loop;

It's impossible to distinguish between perception and a hallucination without the aid of another individual; point out that it's impossible to tell if the individual is real would have resulted in any point being lost in the resulting loop arguement.

Because.

ha, funny story. On my second trip off of 3.5g, I realized that the universe is just an infitely spiraling question loop of why/because. I could pretty much justify anything with that logic. Can't do it now, but, it was pretty sweet at the time.

I hear ya freddurgan.  It's funny how you can have EVERYTHING figured out at one moment in time and, no matter how hard you try to grasp on to that kind of thinking, it just doesn't translate in "this" world.  :3rd_eye:

So we vote on it?

Majority rules eh? Seems a pretty crude way to distinguish the real from the illusory.

>So we vote on it? Majority rules eh? Seems a pretty crude way to distinguish the real from the illusory.
-The idea is the universe exists independently of us percieving it. Each individual can percieve the universe but for what ever reason each ends up getting a skewed version. The idea of pooling these individual perceptions to form one that is more accurate than any single one is an idea I've been tossing around in my head, and it's true that it isn't perfect. For example, a few hundred years ago everyone would have agreed the Earth was flat... we know today this is not so. So now we are faced with the task of reaching A universal reality EVEN THOUGH we know it's not going to match up with THE universal reality. The going idea is that under this framework, ideas will spread faster and knowledge can evolve at an accelerated rate. So, we vote on it and see what goes on from there. I'm preparing a a 3 part experiment to determine a universal reality based on the shroomery as a focus group... hopefully the first part will be up in the next few days.

Hope to see you there.
