Ok, so I finally got around to listening to this.  It’s fucking bonkers.  Just an amazing album. I don’t even want to say more than that because there’s so much good stuff to say about it, and I don’t want to type it all.  Thanks for the recommendation, PatrickKn.  It is seconded.

It’s pretty unlikely that anyone will take your word for it and search out a song.  If you’ve got something you’d like to share, it’s probably only going to find an audience here if you link to it.

Anyone listen to chiptune?  It’s electronic music made in the style of 8 and 16 bit videogame music.  It’s probably the first purely electronic music I was really into; as a kid, I’d play games that I wasn’t crazy about if I really liked the music.  These days it has a happy, nostalgic vibe that still sounds like great music to me.  Here’s an album by Slime Girls.  If you’re not into it within 3-4 minutes, it’s probably because chiptune isn’t a thing you enjoy.

I don't want you to fix my carport (craftman). Too lazy to google a song.

Btw the song only works if on Mushrooms. Then it always works. :mushroom2::sun:

So tonight I’m going out to see my first DJ sets in 4 years.  I’ve been out to see a few live performance artists over the years, but not too often because the late night shows don’t mesh well with the early morning responsibilities of involved parenting.  I’m pretty excited to go see Bicep and Avalon Emerson though.

Below is the video for Bicep’s ‘Glue’.  The song and video are about rave days in the 90s, and what it feels like looking back on it.  I went to my first rave in 1996 (getting into it that year, I felt like I was late to the party, as all the older partiers had been going for years), and it seems kinda surreal to me.  At the time it felt like more than something fun; it felt like something important.  Like it was part of a movement, and in a sense, it was.  Electronic music has long since moved beyond its small cottage industry roots, and is now a fully fledged mainstream thing.  I have some mixed feelings about that, but I’m very thankful to have the memories that I have.  And that’s really what this video is about: memories of the feeling.

I saw Bicep on Friday night, and they played this really great tune as their second to last.  It’s a kinda emotional genre fusion job that mixes deep house & trance elements real nicely.  I hunted it down after I got home, and figured maybe someone here might like it.

Glad you liked it.  Four Tet has some great stuff, and he did that fantastic Boiler Room show.

Any of you’ll cowards enjoy vaporwave?  I feel like California/Oregon was the only person here who really dug it, and where the heck is he?  Anyway, I understand the criticisms people have against vaporwave; that it’s cheesy, that it’s unimaginative, etc.  But here’s the thing: I LIKE cheese, and I don’t need a ton of imaginative sounds for music to be enjoyable.  Not everything I listen to needs to be some enriching, aurally enlightening experience.  I think vaporwave is cool because it upcycles older songs, turns now-useless music into something fun again.

The album below is one of my faves from the vaporwave scene.  It’s classy af, and fully glam.  The songs come as small, digestible vignettes that are very satisfying.  Just kinda lush, bouncy, fancy, jazzy, cool snippets of music.  If you’re not real familiar with vaporwave, give it five minutes.

Here's a dope mix of some future sounding neurofunk:

cmon dude

i like a bit of vaporwave, luxury elite being one of them. outside of them, always liked this song a lot:

and this is a classic album of the genre by now:

and one more cool project i remember being into

i like some of this stuff a lot, have gone through phases of being really into it and not giving a fuck about it. a lot of the "future funk/disco" type stuff like saint pepsi makes me really depressed though, i don't know why.

Hell yeah dude.  I love Catsystem Corp., HKE, and 2814.  Never heard of Midnight Television, but I’ll check it out today.  I gotta say, I find it a bit unusual that you get depressed while listening to Saint Pepsi; his stuff is so upbeat and funky.  But music does different things to different people.  I like some stuff by St. Pepsi, but I’m not a huge fan.  A lot of it is good, but even more of it is kinda irritating.  I feel like when people say “vaporwave is just music for weeaboos on Xanax”, they’re referring specifically to producers like St. Pepsi, or Timeless.

Here’s two more of my favorite vapor jawns.  The first one is straight up classic-style vaporwave:

Waterfront Dining- NOICE すてきな

This next one is a vaportrap album.  I actually bought it on vinyl a couple weeks ago, because I like it so much.  Should get delivered just about any day now.

VAPERROR- mana pool
