Mushrooms in Alabama over the past year or two...
    #2528737 - 04/05/04 06:05 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

First of all, howdy howdy, it's your friendly neighborhood Seeker here. Now, a bit of background. The last time I went hunting was in the late '90's. I have always hunted in the state of Alabama, never going further south than around the Shelby county area. The main reason I stopped is because I found nothing and was told it was because farmers were using fungicide and killing all of the mushrooms so that there were none to find.
So, I have two questions. Does the hunting improve as you go further south in Alabama? Second, can one actually find mushrooms in Alabama if one goes far south enough(I'm planning a road trip deep south if the answer is yes)? I know this is a very newbie type question, but I'd be driving a long way and don't want to drive if there is no hope at all.

Thanks for your time

THey do not spray fungicides in pastures where cattle feed. That is urban legend and not every field you go too will have magic shrooms. Many fields do not.

You just have to go every day and cover each one. Eventually one of them will have some fruitings and then you will be happy.

I so stand corrected.  Now I just have to wait until the weather improves and see if the old place that I used to go to years and years ago has been forgotten like has been suggested(it used to be the place to go long ago but became played out in around....96 or so, it was suggested that it hasn't been used since).  Oh, and when was that pic taken?  It looks really, really tasty.

I get the feeling that there will be quite a few new "I found some" posts very soon. It's been forecasted to rain in my area in Georgia like every other day in the coming week.

I saw the same in my area, but it looks like the temperatures aren't going to break 80. Isn't that a bit cold for hunting? Or is it going to be warmer in your area?

I wouldn't post about specific locals due to the wrong eyes possibly looking in.
Go get 'em and be safe.
