How to make a plug/drain on your terrarium?
    #2536122 - 04/07/04 07:21 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I'm using an ultrasonic humidifier for my setup. How would I go about making a draining hole for my terrarium? I heard this is also good for gas exchange, which confuses me...does this mean it needs to be open all the time, or sealed somehow and opened periodically? What should I use to make a sealable hole that can be opened (if this is necessary), and where on the terrarium should I place the hole. Also, if sealed hole is necessary, how often should it be drained ideally (for gas exchange).

I have used a small (1/8 inch or so) hole drilled in a corner of the bottom of the chamber which I left open all the time...CO2 would drain out (it's heavier than air), and I never had a problem with contams because of it. Since it is always open, when the ultrasonic kicked on, the stale air could be exhausted...

Can somebody specifically clarify where on the chamber the hole is drilled? Is it on the side or bottom of the terrarium, how far from the bottom, and will this effect the humidity of the chamber (this wwould be a good thing because I'm having trouble with the humidity being too high anyways). Also how much water should I expect to collect from a 5 week cycle? Should I put a towel under the exit hole, or a pan? Thanks everybody.
