Someone mentioned Mercury rising so I wrnt and looked it up, you mean the 1998 Bruce Willis movie?

Is LoL/10 good or laughably bad? I'm confused bc the movie appears to be a serious Bruce Willis (im not a big fan) movie.

But some movies are so bad they're inadvertantly funny. Just curious for clarification.

--------------

Three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri
(2017)

8/10
I saw a brief description for this while I was browsing a few weeks ago and saved it in my favorites bc the plot sounded juicy and vengeful. All I remember knowing was a citizen rents out three billboards in town calling out the local chief of police and drama ensues. I definitely have a vengeful bone in me in certain times so that made me giggle. I didn't expect from my two second glance that it would be well written or have a cast with as many stars as a half clear night.

I enjoy suspenful movies or whodunnits more as I get older, for sure, and this one definitely satisfies that itch. You start knee deep in a rolling story and details become revealed to you as you go, for example the movie opens with the protagonist renting the billboards and not far into the movie we see the chief of police visit the protagonist at home and have a friendly discussion and we quickly discern they have a past but how deep, bave they fucked, is he tbe father of her kids, did he do it, Is he protecting them?

I like that. Makes me feel like I'm racing dor information I'm involved in the movie more.

There was one scene where a distraught police officer goes across the street and the way the camera followed behind this good actor, seen him in a lot of things can't think of his name or be bothered to search, but tbe camera Is behind him in a one shot action take that involves realistic assualt and immediate bleeding, sleek panning around the scene as the action moves into thr other room and in the same take - i couldn't believe it i don't do spoilers I'm very careful how i word these. But it was refreshing to jump up and literally say to the tv "no waaaay he just did that" and then excitedly settle back down to watch the dominos fall.

This was a beautifully chaotic and tragic story that wad a breath of fresh air in a sea of remakes and cash grabs that ruin my Marvel and Image comic upbringing. The more I see Woody Harrelsons work thr more surprised I am in my memories of cheers he really did a good job in this drama role.

Cons - I think the ending is weak, its subplot material at best, its not satisfying. Also the foreshadowing was a bit heavy usually I don't catch on to as much as I did here, yeah there was a twist in tbe end amd the foreshadowing was wrong, but a) that's just cheap and b) that particular twist led to the unsatisfying ending.

Cloverfield Paradox (2018)

2/10

I couldn't wait to come in here and talk shit about this movie. I value a thread like this because I love movies and with my schedule and general ADD most movies i half listen to as I'm doing things aroujd the house or I'll watch for ten minutes listen for ten as I alternate cooking amd watching. But the movies i rate i feel strongly about, probably either a strong good or a strong bad because it's not often I get to turn down all the lights, up the volume and really pay attention.

It is my hope that y'all steer me to some good night's of gripping action or provocative thought and maybe I can prevent you from wasting time and beinf upset about it as I was.

This movie was an absolute tragesty. I said that aloud to myself in a stoned stupor. Then, finding my own Freudian amalgam far more interesting to ponder than the shitty movie in front of me. I then realized I meant tragedy and travesty both and I don't know if my mind combined tbem or if I need to read more and forgot how to say travesty, they're both correct, this movie is an affront to ones senses, I predict this movie will be played at loud volumes on repeated loops at military detainment centers.

I quickly went to rotten tomatoes to see if i was alone in my wonder of how they turned something so straight forward and almost played out honestly (parallel universe) into a convoluted mess. I was not alone, across the board every prodessiinal film critic gave it a generous 2/4 though they generally complained it was hard to follow or spent half the movie being explained. I don't understand this hard to follow aspect, if like half the world you have seen Stranger Things or any other parallel universe involved plot then like me you guessed it ten minutes before the characters amd it was absolutely painful to watch them need to be bottle feed explanations, what a broken record this is becoming in Hollywood. Alternate reality plots? Great. Long explanations and characteds in disbelief like it's 1997 again? Fuck me.

At one point in the movie a crew member is actively being pulled throuhh a wall into an alternate dimension. He is pulled back by his crewmates but in thr struggle his arm disappears. No blood no pain. His arm just is in the other dimension. Later it reappears wriggling in the hallway and like so many times in tbe movie the crew spends an uncomfortable amd akward amount of time reacting to the "horror" and inhaling audibly amd gasping while saying "what is that" when it's fucking obvious its an arm in uniform eith a watch in a well lit hallway crawling forward eith it's fingers.

Whatever tbe black chick bitch actress name is, that lady spent half the movie in a non believable state of "shock" we will call it or "disbelief", one time the station was about to blow up and she sitting thete frozen in the chair crying watching the countdown amd I'm just in fucking pain here yelling at tv, she's the hero there is no American crew up there tbe commander has a Brazil patch black scared bitch is British the token guy who may be friend may be foe the whole movie is Russian (of course) amd in one reality he's a traitor for the Russian government in the other he's a pussy who can't even defend himself, whateeeever.

They decide to manipulate the O2 systems and like all the other reviewers on rotten tomatoes mentioned, this movie just talked and talked and talked about tbe science part as if we are two year olds and they discuss at length all tbe pros and cons of manipulating o2 except, oh, the dangers of a 100% oxygen atmosphere in regards to flammability.

I'm forced to waste five minutes listening to this conversation and none of them mention it and, of course it causes a cheap, needed huge explosion where the situation changes amd crew gets whittled down a little.

Cheap. Grossly cheap.

So many major plot changes brought on by stuoid inconceivable actions like this, every space going crew would have knowledge on that after the sacrifices of the NASA Gemini crew I think it was who all burned up in the 60s on the ground when we didn't know about o2 environments being flammable. So many times i didn't accept the flow of tbe plot.

And what a whiny bitch for a main lead. They sure didn't take tbe best or brightest out on this super important mission. What a joke.

I don't want to waste anymore time on this piece of shit movie I'm angry right now. What a failure they all had to know it. You can smell shit, you know.
Another huge problem i have is their lack of quarantine procedure like other cheap space movies that have trouble mpving plot forward without massively catastrophic assanine decisions. This crew member was sick and vomiiting and had space worms inside his belly that exploded outward. Ok let's cut him open with our entire crew inside tbe room with no PPE. Sure.

I mentioned tje arm wiggling down the hallway, it became a major plot point ehen they captured the arm and it made writing motions so they gave it a pen. It wrote to cut open the guy who blew up with worms.

So they all crowded around a contaminated body without PPE amd cut into it and did all that stuff based on orders of an animate arm. Stupid compounding stupid. Amd they're the brightest Earth has. I can't take this shit.

Richard roeper of the Chicago sun times said they should have had the arm do a rewrite for the whole movie. True story.

This movie Should be taken out back and shot. It angers me that shit like this can be released upon unsuspecting public who don't know until their money is spent and there's a chance it could be a financial success regardless. That's unacceptable.

I gave it a 2 because it has professional quality editing and lighting and post production. It could have easily been an 8. They really had to try to make it this convoluted and shitty, stare at your toilet bowl after dinner at Pancho's Mexican restaurant amd you'll see the same exact shitty convoluted mess you won't understand. Save your time

Fuck this movie

Has anyone seen brawl in cell block 99? Plot sounds good but It says Vince vaugn is in it. Probably the last person in the world I could take serious as a tough guy. Behind pee wee Herman even. So I haven't tried it.
He will forever be wedding Crashers with Owen Wilson to me.

Kinda like the accountant. Did anyone see that wirh ben Affleck? I wouod watch it, my kind of movie, i love the Bourne series but Ben Affleck will always be the douchebag who makes me fast forward Armageddon every time i view it (animal cracker scene in an otherwise great movie)

I can't take him seriously as a hit man. Never.

you would think so, judging by the poster.. but actually it is a really twisted movie about a 17 year old girl who is extorting money from members of her community in oreder to get her dad out of jail, then all of a sudden the girl's mom decides to move mom's boyfriend in the house and his son from a previous marriage. and then it gets real weird.. you gota see it! good direction and good story. and the cast is wonderfully picked.

10 x 10    (2018)

7/10

I have mixed feelings on this one, on the one hand it has no replay value at all because once you know why she was kidnapped and all the plot, well that wad the movie, the dramatic unveiling of it all.

Also this movie has to win an award for more than usual stupid things I don't agree with carrying the plot forward, the captor repeatedly never Pat's down the victim and repeatedly does other foolish thinfs like leaving a working cell phone on the victim then leaving the house.

The house that he specifically built a torture dungeon in order to contain this person he stalked meticulously for months, yet literally every time he interacts with the victim he is a noob.

But on the other hand this movie had a twist I don't think anyone in the world would see coming, I wish i could make a joke about it, sounds kinda ludicrous, but there it is. That's the plot. Lol never saw rhat coming.

Also the female lead was absolutely ferocious. I was on the edge of my seat truly believing that she was a handful and if i was the captor I better watch for bit fingers and clawed scrotums. She held up to the interrogation well too, I was pretty impressed woth her performance.

So even though it has no replay value, the actress worked her butt off for her paycheck and it was a pretty neat unveil of all the details. I'd recommend it on a slow night for sure

Pretty cool premise. Didn't really see it coming. I thought the ending could have been far better, but the rest of the movie is totally worth watching.

I didn't think so.. but I am not sure what people did not like. It was disturbing, but I thought it was well done and original. I wouldn't say I "liked" it, but it was effective at moving me emotionally, just not in a positive direction. I don't  watch those types if movies to feel good, and I left the theater asking myself, "WTF just happened.."

Esteros(2016)-7/10

Adorable Argentinian gay drama about two guys reuniting 10 years later and rekindling their romance despite moving on with life.  It's very cute, but far too formulaic and predictable for me to give it any more than a 7.  It's rather short at 83 minutes but i do'nt see it being able to carry any more length than that regardless.  Anyway, a good cuddle n' watch.
