First time attempt to create a monotub(bulk)

Hello guys, After a year of finding determination and resolve I decided to start growing shrooms by myself. A year back I started out with ordering shroom growing kits from amseterdam but seeing the yield I was utterly disappointed and decided to grow my own. Coming to the point, I placed an order with read the rules dot com, and ordered 3 cubensis spore syringes, 10 liters vermiculite and 10 liters perlite. Now I looked at many monotub teks on this forum but at the end of it I was really confused as to how to go about it. I have many pressure cookers at home so there no problem with sterilizing but I cant get any wild bird seed or rye berry to start out the inoculation process. So, I wanted to ask can I use brown rice flour(from pf tek) instead of wild bird seed/rye berry? And can I use the colonized spawn so obtained to mix it with coco coir in the monotub? Will it affect yields?
Also, I request you to please refer me to a monotub tek which is easy to understand and uses coco coir as substrate. Please help this noob, I am feeling so depressed as all this info here is just bombarding my neurons.

You can use any substrate you want with a monotub. So use coir if you want.
All the good teks like monotub ones, they're all in the stickys at the top of this forum
Also read our forum rules

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll read the forum rules and look for the teks as well.

A really easy method of cultivation is 50% rye grain spawn mixed with 50% coco coir...half and half!. It’s the only recipe I’ve ever used and I have great results. Never needed to add anything else

1:1 is a little heavy on the spawn IMO. You could do 1:2 and get another tub.

Do you have feed stores in your area? I get all my grains from a feed store down the street.
You can grow PF jars, grate up the cakes, and spawn it to bulk. That’s how I did my first ever grow. I used 15 quart mini tubs.

Thanks for the reply. You're absolutely right, I thought I wouldnt get wild bird seed in india but found out it was really a preparation of different seeds that I can easily order on amazon here in India, its called bird feed. TBH, Im so confused reading so many monotub teks that I dont know which one to follow and some parts dont make sense due to the language barrier. Can you please guide me to a simple monotub tek which lists out step by step instructions. I've learned the theory till the part where you inoculate the grain jars but I'm really confused as to how to setup my monotup, for eg. how big the container should be and how to go about the proportions of substrate and spawn. Also, please feel free to guide me to all the basics of cultivation on this forum. Again, thanks a lot for helping me out here.

Thanks, many teks I've read they say 1:1 ratio of spawn to substrate is counter productive for some reason. I guess experimenting is the only way to find out but for my first tek I wanna stick by the book to a nice modern monotub tek.

Check out any of the grocery or pet stores if you have any in the area. Milo/Sorghum, Millet, Oats, Wheat, Barley, Rye, Triticale, Wild Bird Seed... You can use any of these as grain spawn and so much more.

India huh? Seems like there’s a lot of agriculture and farming/ranching out there. If I were you I’d look around for a feed store. However I also know that there are a lot of huge urban areas out there and that feed stores might be hard to find. If you have health food stores that sell whole grains that’s always a good way to go. Whole grain wheat is a good grain for mushroom cultivation.

Yeah, agriculture is still the backbone of my country. Although I can't find rye berry, I've found Bob's Red Mill, Organic, Dark Rye Flour. Can I use flour instead of whole grains? Finding whole wheat flour is also not a problem, we use it everyday to make cooked bread.

Hi, thanks a lot. I can find some of the grains you just mentioned but wanted to ask can I use rye flour instead of rye grain? Does it have any impact on the overall process?

The only time you want to use flour is if you’re doing cakes. For producing grain spawn you really do need a whole grains. If you can find whole wheat berries, that works every bit as well as rye. I am partial to whole oats.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up. Now everything is getting clear. I was still thinking of cakes and mixing flour with vermiculite and then pc'ing but I dont need them since I can do just fine with pc'ing whole oats and then inoculate them.

Use your fully colonized brf/pf cakes, grate them up with a cheese grater and use them as spawn in your bulk sub. BRF to bulk/Cakes as spawn

Look at the signature line of the first responder and click on the link for everything you need... pretty much the standard for monotub configuration
