wild variations in bulk colonization times

recently gotten into 1:1 spawn to sub ratio and most tubs are still taking at least 10 days if not 14 to fully colonize. originally from a multispore agar wedge so i figured the variables should have been cut way down.

figured it was just getting the hang of field capacity but now i have certain tubs finishing in 5-6 days while others keep going for two weeks.

is this just a difference of mycelium? somehow throwing the moisture content during pasteurization in jars? i don't get it. soon i'll be starting new jars for g2g with tissue culture so hoping to see more uniformity in colonization speed and fruiting but i'm still curious as to what is going on here. i used to get fully colonized tubs at a 1:4 ratio in the amount of time it's happening with 1:1

Depends on the culture, temps and moisture content of bulk sub. It will vary from grow to grow but 7-14 days is normal

thanks!

i have em around 73 at the moment, all in the same room. should i try and get closer to 80? i have an incubator that will get quart jars done g2g finished in like 5-6 days with one shake but i've always read that bulk sub has additional heat so mid 70s should be fine.

what's throwing me for a loop is far as i know, aside from whatever mycelium made it into each jar, it's just odd that out of the batch i spawned on the 17th, two are completely done and the others have barely even gotten started

Don't incubate anything at all, ever. It just invites bacteria. 65-75F is fine. More is bad.
