OK I started out with 2 sterile grain bags with self-healing patch, inoculated the first one with 1/2 syringe the golden teachers strain, and put the other bag in the freezer. The first bag turned out very well. two months laer I thawed the 2nd bag and changed my mind about inoculating and put it back in the freezer. I got it back out 3 months subsequent thawed it out and inoculated with the second half of the same syringe which had been refrigerated the whole time. The second bag generated no growth. No mycelium, no mold, no bacteria. I inoculated with another syringe from the refrigerator of another strain and no change with months gone by. Why success the first try and no mycelium the second try?
Your moisture content in your grains were probably fucked. I've never heard of anyone talking about freezing grains before. It's probably a really bad idea. Nocc them up within a day or two of sterilizing them.

Your moisture content in your grain probably crystalized it the freezer killing the nutrient in the grain. Kinda like the affect of freezer burning a steak.

Doesn't look good at all, cover the holes or place it outside and maybe some pins will mature before the colony gives up. You'll catch em next time!

How do you guys prevent burst grains in wbs? I can't find the link to the tek I usually use but it's basically boil water, throw in wbs. Let sit for an hour, rinse, strain, jar pc for 90 mins. Every time i get burst seeds, they clump together and i can't get them to break apart. This causes the mycelium to never fully colonize.

Sweet. I used to do the 24hr soak. I'll try the 12 and see how it goes.

This Verticillium infection is getting out of hand. It’s spread to other fruiting tubs now... short of going home and trashing everything, what can I do to clean up or prevent it after starting fresh? Shit happened so fast, thought I got it under control but guess not. Freshly cased PE mono is pinning and one of the chunky pins has already split its stipe
Reading online published articles about Verticillium fungicola say it can survive up to 6 months and that cleaning with water actually spreads the spores even more/farther

Damn dude. SFYL. I'd harvest then place everything thats after full colonisation outside. Double check all your plates.
After a quick search:
Quote:
I hope I never see that again... It scared the shit out of me. The peeling happened entirely over night. One day it was fine, the next morning, disaster.
MY grow room used to be in a loft above my kitchen. I attribute its uncleanliness to a serious fungal gnat problem I had while growing. I believe the gnats led to the vert, but thats just my theory. I quit growing for ~4 months until I could grow in a new room away from my kitchen.

Unfortunately, that Nu Muang clone culture I had posted in a shoebox does have vert riding along. Harvested this tub and trashed it. Was a decent clone for big shrooms too. Seems that the infection is parasitic in that the caps are all smaller than normal

So I kept this tub around in the corner of a different room with the lid on, knowing I shouldn’t have and being told not to do so, and ended up getting this for a second flush

Nothing shows signs of infection. Wtf is going on?

Well I actually lifted it out of the tub and put it into a different unmodded tub so air wouldn’t flow thru and pick up vert spores. Even though they’re already probably everywhere by now

This is the PE fruit that I think is splitting. The blue is from me touching it. Split overnight
Sorry for the dub post

That sounds like a solid idea.. gonna watch how these last few monos fruit and if its even slightly askew, the place is getting bombed.
I threw out about 80% of my stuff, save 2 cultures and 3 fresh monos. Several spawn jars went out. Only kept the mexicana and a few masters. Doing a pre-deep clean tonight
No rest for the wicked

Fuck I'm starting to wonder if this was what killed my last couple tubs, One of my APE's looked like it exploded where the veil drops and the veil was thick, like a couple millimeters. I also just had a Xupari plate pin and the stripes pealing on it. I trashed what I had going on but got several more jars of both APE and red boy clones, I've been cleaning the room alot. Hopefully come Thursday when I spawn it'll be a fresh start, best of luck to you Germs
