a losing battle
    #2518796 - 04/02/04 11:36 AM (20 years, 18 days ago)

is it just me or has ODD become OTD. just swamped with irrelevent posts such as "if u found crack what would u do". i understand it is alot of work to have to go through everthign all the time and delete the irrelevent posts or move them. and never should go back to fully moderated. i dunno just wanted to know the admins/mods thoughts on this.

peace

i move and lock a shit load of posts everyday... i try not to be a fucking thread gestopo though raviging through the forum. theres a lot of borderline threads which i usually just leave alone.... essentially the main problem is people not taking time to use the search engine properly, which in nearly every case would awnser their question much quicker

A majority of the questions now posted are either easily answerable or questions that have been asked before. Next time you post in ODD, just THINK about what you're posting. Is it a legitimate question/fact or a comment that will raise a discussion leading nowhere? Though the forum is named other drugs DISCUSSION, pointless threads, i.e. "I found some acid in South Africa", will be locked.

Another idea is to just do a search before you post. Even with every user being told to use the search engine before posting, I guarantee 80% of users done, mostly the new ones who haven't yet read rules. With moderated forum, the % of questions like this was relatively low, because users knew questions would take a while to be approved/answered and may not even be accepted, therefore they didn't waste the time doing it.

THINK BEFORE YOU POST!

It's not so much a loosing battle, so much as a cycle of endless endeavor, which if you think about it, is really what makes life livable -- the constant struggle and adversity, which fuels desire...

I used to get quit upset that, just when I thought we had finally cleaned this community up, that things would quickly descend (yet again) into a state of chaos and anarchy, but then I remembered that this is pretty much the way life works. Like salmon swimming upstream, we are always fighting entropy, decay, and chaos, but that is what challenges us, and helps define us as individuals -- by opposition...

It really never ends. Just when you finished paying to get the roof fixed, then the refrigerator breaks, and if you're rich, and those kind of things aren't really a problem, then it's a whole different set of issues, but the concept remains the same...

You must remember that, this is The Shroomery 6.0, and there have been five other versions. The first Shroomery was perfect, but it ultimately failed because of this perfection -- the members rejected the program, and entire crops were lost. The new Shroomery construct seem to work better, as it contains adversity subroutines, and the illusion of freedom of choice, as a control structure...

The bottom line is that, these things are cyclical, and it seems to me that all we need to do is maybe have another little clean up for ODD, and maybe have another little crackdown. Or perhaps, we need a new messiah -- like "The One" version 6.0...

Have a Cookie!

I've fought ODD crackdowns in the past, but I agree one is necessary now or sometime in the near future. The redundancy of the posts is ridiculous. Maybe a couple more mods (I apply) and some sticky threads for some common substances.

people have said before we should have the big and dandy threads like bluelight (for research chemicals especially) and maybe some other common things then make 1 sticky containing the links to all the threads. or a big faq for chemicals, i'd be willing to work on it, but i dunno the information is really already out there and i don't see it helping all that much, i mean none of the people posting stupid shit ever read the stickys or they wouldn't be posting stuid shit

I've been real busy with stuff these past few weeks, but I will try and look into this situation when I get a bit more time in the near future -- maybe try and "rally the troops" again...

We have been trying to work on an Other Drugs FAQ this past year, but we may be trashing it (or it may have actually just been trashed) due to lack on contributions. If you would like to contribute, go to the FAQ Forum, or contact Anno, or an ODD Mod.

As far having lots of sticky threads, I don't see this as a good idea, or that redundancy is really the problem. This is a message board after all -- not an archive. Just as in the Cultivation forums, people want to ask questions in order to participate in social dialog, and this is also how advancements are made, and people arrive at new understandings of things. Remember, on a "Message Board" a certain amount of "discussion" should be encouraged!

If you ask me what the problems that should be addressed are, I would say that immature and irresponsible posts are the real problem. When dealing with many of the substances covered in ODD Forum, death, injury, and serious health and happiness impairment, may result. Therefor, it is imperative, that the Moderators are active setting a mature and respectful tone. I might add, however, that it is up to everybody who participates to help establish a proper tone for that forum. Those with experience, should be polite and helpful, but also advise people of potential dangers. And, those without experience, and many questions, should think before they post, and treat the subjects in that forum with the respect that they deserve.

I gotta rune, but those are my thoughts for the moment. Let's hear all of yours!
