Crumbled Cakes as Opposed to Grain Spawn

Could one substitute an equal amount (in volume) of crumbeled BRF cakes in a tek that calls for grain spawn?
There is a tek Im looking at that requires about a gallon or two of grain spawn per batch. Considering that there is eight pints in a gallon, that would mean 16 half-pint jars would roughly equal the volume of the grain that is needed. If you add a few extra jars to be sure, say a total of twenty five, and crumble them all, could you use the resulting colonized media in replacement for grain spawn?
The method involves worm compost and wheat straw if that helps.
THanks for your time

It works very well, and since a fully colonized cake seems to be harder to contam then fully colonized grain (my opinion only) that is one thing going for it.
