Should I remove my plastic for a bit? Is that spot bad?

That's a tough decision.  I think it looks too wet also;  If the environment is clean enough, it might be a good idea to let that spot air out a little bit.
It looks like a little bacteria pool.
The problem is that the exposed infection can be a site for a new infection like mold. . .The more you manipulate, uncover/recover straw preps, the more you're asking for trouble, IME.
I gave up on straw years ago, maybe someone else has a suggestion. . .  sorry :frown:

The moisture seems to not affect the growth of the myc at all.  The top layer is about 30-40% colonized and it has not even been one week since I put the casing together.  I picked out some of the discolored straw, but the myc seem to be taking it over anyway.  I don't think I am going to worry about it too much and just let it sit for a couple of days all wrapped up.  Thanks for the input. :mushroom2:

My advice is to carefully remove that area with a sterile tool. Bacterial contamination can be hard to fight, IMHO the faster you get rid of it, the better.
Btw, the straw is too wet and this promotes bacterial germination.

Thanks for the feedback.  I took your advice and went to remove the brown straw, and get this, there was a piece of wire from the straw bales that was sitting there and rusting.  So, it is actually not a contam, but only a discolored spot from some rust.  Pretty sure the myc won't care about rust, so I just left most of it in since it is almost all colonized over the brown spot.  Thanks!

Glad to hear you figured it out. One word of warning, rust probably won't dampen the spirits of the mycelium much, but it can contribute to bacterial proliferation. Bacteria just love iron. If the mycelium is taking over sufficiently, I wouldn't worry about it, but in the future you might want to consider ways to reduce rust formation.
Good luck with it;
