Goliath likes to blue int the grain jar- it always seems to do that. Psilocin oxidizing when it leaks out of old mycelia?
So thats standard behavior for Goliath-but the rhizo form is not- hmm.
Interesting. I might have thrown away Panaeolus jars in the past thinking they were contaminated. As a matter of fact, I still have some stalled out, blueish Panaeolus grain jars. Might try something with those..

Pan Jamaican. Six beautful, fluffy, white trays of myc. Looks so much better than last time.
I've added a waterproof outtake fan to blow air out of my GH down the shower drain. Will it work?
mary, if you see this, it looks just like those trays of yours that you showed me.

Looks good! Are you going to case them and go to fruiting now?.
I dont think air down the shower drain would work well, if at all. There may be a "water trap"- a "U" shaped pipe that will have water in it- if so it would block air flow. Even without it I think there would be too much resistance.
Is there a problem with just venting the air out of the shower stall?
Best wishes,

Just wondering from the picture- do you have a cover over the rack of trays or at least a shower curtain to keep the humidity from escaping?

I cased with peat/verm 1:1. I don't think the drain thing will work either. I need to rig something up so I can mount the fan on the shower door. The fan is nice. It's pretty powerful and comes with a variable speed controller, so I am able to adjust pretty nicely.
Edit: I do not cover the racks. The shower is able to hold humidity very well.

Cinctilus tends to be wispy- so its a bit harder to distinguish it from cobweb mold, but that looks like cobweb mold to me.
Here's what cync should look like:
On the edge of the plate at ~the 10 o'clock position is a cobweb mold. The fibers of cobweb mold are finer and less dense- more translucent- than any mycelia I ever came across. Also that dark center is often a hallmark of cobweb.
It looks like you just put a piece of the print directly on the plate (the 7-8 o'clock position of your plate)- is that true? I know people do things differently and there are a lot of different ways to get it to work but some ways are more likely to cause trouble than others.

So you put the prints on paper just to see how it looked- then decided to to just go for in and put it on agar.
With that said I like to use foil routinely- rolled foil should be sterile- there are plenty of teks on the site. Since its on paper anyway and if you have extra plates why not work with what you have except this time streak the plate. If you get just more contams- you will have learned from the experience.
Do you have an inoculating loop- or even better some sterile cotton tipped applicators (throat swabs)?. Try streaking a few plates, if you are not familiar with the technique, you can google it. Streaking can separate mycelia from contams, if that works transfer some of the resultant colonies to the center of new plates. You can show us all what you have and hopefully someone can tell you if you're on the right track. If you collect some more wild caps- try them on foil- they will be contaminated but you should still be able to clean them up on agar.
I started from a wild print- but I streaked (swabbed) the plate from just a small portion of the print. The pic I showed you was the 3rd transfer from the germination plate. The colony was clean by the first transfer; further transfers were for selection of a symmetric colony.

Zaid said: So from my understanding the method would be: "Sterilize loop -> dry rub against spores -> (streak 3-4 times into single quadrant -> sterilize loop) x 4" Honestly I would imagine the throat swabs to be better at picking up the spores and less of a hassle for sterilization.
If I can find another fruit I'll definitely try it on foil next time but it's been waaay too hot and dry here lately.
Anyway, thanks so much for your help! I had no idea about streaking so it's a huge help for bringing up the suggestion. I thought agar was all a drop-and-go thing. Will definitely give it a shot and keep you guys updated on any successes if you guys care.
God bless you, fairchild
Yes- you have it. With the sterile swabs- its easier to pick up a bit of the print- you can see a black spot on the swab where the spores are; and of course you don't use a flame at all. Swipe the plate once with the spores touching the plate, then turn the swab 1/4 of a turn so the clean part is down on the plate and swab the initial streak in another direction- and repeat that for two more swabs. IMO way better than an inoculating loop. What works for me. You may see others doing their agar work in completely different ways.
Good Luck!

A blackhead remover is what I use for an inoculation loop. You want to flame sterilize it and cool it in the agar before putting it to spores or they will die. Some agar will be left on the tip and help you pick up spores.
Throat swabs typically come sterile. You need a pressure cooker to sterilize qtips and they can be a pain

A case of 100 2-pack sterile swabs can be had for less than $15 shipped
Got some cinctulus on agar too, gonna post some pics here in a bit

making that many sterile swabs isnt worth it. My labor is worth more than that
