i have some 2 -3 foot san pedros that have been growing for about a year and a half or so now. they are in pots but i was wondering if since the area i live is already in the mid 70s to 80 F during the day and 60s F at night and not a lot of rainfall would it be ok to plant them in the ground in favorable spots until fall when the weather starts to cool?

i am pretty new to cacti growing, but i would say you could move them outdoors, but still grow them in the pots. the pots control the soil pH better than the outside ground probably would.

i would wait for more experienced opinions, though

If it's going to hold steady in those conditions with no frost till the coming fall i'd plant them outside.

Consider the kind of soil you have and if you may have to make an artificial bed for them. And if you want to take the time to dig down and uproot the guy again in the fall to bring him inside - a reason why you might want to just leave him in a pot and/or get a bigger pot.

Mine stay outside almost year round, but I keep them in pots just in case I need to bring them inside because of a frost.

I live in zone 8b of the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map where the average annual minimum temperature is 20 - 15 degrees F. Check here http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/hzm-se1.html for your own area.

I could probably get by with a make shift plastic greenhouse during the coldest time of the year.
