This find looks a lot like the holotype photo taken in 1977.

Next time you find it try to get some really nice photos of them in their native habitat.

The sequence is the same as all of the Psilocybe atlantis sequences, and 5 bases different from Psilocybe mexicana.  Since this is the same species as Psilocybe atlantis, the older name P. tampanensis takes priority.

Macroscopically, P. tampanensis has a smaller, more convex and lighter in color cap than P. mexicana.

Before this collection arrived it was thought that P. tampanensis was P. mexicana and P. atlantis was slightly different, but that is not the case.

Are P. atlantis, P. tampanensis, P. mexicana and P. galindoi all synonyms?

I meant to say I'm the 2nd person to find them in Florida. The first with 2 finds.

Edit: The one in the link above with the scalpel was found on a sand bar on the river. I will definitely be taking my camera. This is supposed to be a wet week and I plan to go back and see what I can find.

Here's a few micrographs taken at 400x.
Sorry it took so long. I'll put some up at 1000x when I get some immersion oil. You need to expand the pictures to see the structures.

The only two species that are separate are Psilocybe tampanensis and Psilocybe mexicana.

P. atlantis and P. tampanensis are synonyms.
P. galindoi - ATL #7 is a synonym for P. tampanensis.
P. galindoi is a synonym for P. mexicana.

Just thought I would answer my own question.

I'm pretty sure that I included in situ photos. The only one I know for sure that I didn't take an in situ was the one I found on the river sand bar like area with lots of grass.

The more I research Tampanensis the more I’m finding it discovered and not talked about.  I have Ps. Tampanensis from this year season from a hunter in GA; id like to send Alan some samples, I’m in communication with him to get some pieces and a wild print.  I saw him post a pic from this week, after the rains of some large fruits.

This paper seems to say that you would be the 4th person Doc to collect in FL.

Maybe I’m being a hater about Stamets but idk; we need to get your name edited onto that page next to the greats!  One day I’ll be up there; going for most southerly Tampanensis smh 🤦‍♂️ just realized tampa is southwest of me lol

Those look nothing like the Tampanensis I’ve found.

These were also sent to workman and I was told Atlantis. Which is supposed to be the same as tampanensis.

This is not Psilocybe tampanensis, they look nothing like the specimens I found and the habitat is wrong. This is still interesting, especially if there's not any dung around.

I would love to study this is you will send me a spore print and maybe a couple fruits that are dry.

Edit,  it could be because you used a flash that they look off to me, is that correct,  you used a flash?

edit: It could be 2 different phenotypes perhaps

But "Psilocybe atlantis" and Psilocybe tampanensis are the same thing...

What else could they be?
They are not "Psilocybe atlantis" because that means the same thing as Psilocybe tampanensis...
I'm calling those phishhead collections Psilocybe tampanensis unless Alan Rockefeller suggests otherwise...
