Correct type of 1/2 pint jar?
    #2532340 - 04/06/04 06:28 PM (13 years, 22 days ago)

Ok... i had a question... as long as the 1/2 pint jar is wide mouthed... does it make a difference if it is the taller skinnier, or fatter stubbier jars...

Im pretty sure I have seen both types used, and dont see what difference it would make as long as the mouth is a wide mouth and not tapered...

am i right?

help!

taller skinnier = regular mouthed
fatter stubbier = wide mouthed

they will both work, wide is better

Not really, i think the poin of a wide mouth is to get more surface area, thus more area to fruit from....

With cakes it seems like the pins prefer to come up on the edges near the top and near the bottom...

So with a wide mouth you have a larger edge-and thus more area to pin from....

Get the wide mouth if you can.....Settle for the thin mouth if you have too....

Your saying the 1/2 pint regular will colonize faster than a wide mouth? I dont see how thats possible considering the volume of substrate is the same...please explain....

most the jars for PF Casing, so it shouldnt make much difference... but just wondering if the 1/2 pint regulars (taller.skinnier)would still fruit fine if just kept as a cake

>Why dont you explain to me how come wide mouth is better.

The wide one will not fall over, the tall one will much easier.
