 White "snow-like" dots on compost

Hello,
My friend has a problem, I think. I don't have any pics, camera is non-operational at the moment.
My friend took 10 pounds of compost and spawned it with 3 pints of fully-colonized white-millet in a large rubbermaid bin.
For two weeks now, everything was cool. All of a sudden, he is noticing white "dots" of growth completely covering the top of his grow. They kinda look like pinning, except they're completely white. It looks like this has been "snowed" on. It almost kinda looks like someone sprinkled it with white-parmesan cheese.
I know it's asking a lot to help with this without any pictures, but has anyone else seen this? I thought only mycellium was supposed to be white, and anything not white was bad. This almost looks bad to me though. I've not seen it before.

This is a good thing, right? Hyphal knots?
The compost was mixed with the spawn almost two weeks ago. I can't see any discoloration in my friends grow here. Does this mean that this grow will be fruiting soon?

knots are a good thing. They are usually the beggining of pins.

It looks like pins are forming but i'd be cautious anyway.
As for now, all you can do is wait.
