Amount of Fanning and Misting when Pins Start to Form???
    #2530884 - 04/06/04 10:52 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I've got lots and lots of knots on my 3 casings, and I noticed this morning there is a little mini shroom trying to climb his way upward.  Once you start to get pins, should you still fan at least 3-5 times a day??  Also, usually when I fan I spray the chamber and mist the casings a bit too.  Should I stop spraying the casings now or continue to mist them??  Thanks for the help in this next stage

once you got pins, u shouldnt need to mist the casing, becarful if you mist the pins because it will cause aborts, i can't really help you about the fanning... just my 2 cents.

Yeah, that's what I thought...I had read somewhere that spraying the casings would cause the pins to abort.  I guess I'll just continue to fan about 3-5 times a day.  I also read someone had stated that too much CO2 can cause the pins to have some shrinking effect, or in other words, not allow the pin to get nice and fat.  Always gotta double check though

If it's not true, should I still continue to mist the casings periodically throughout the day when I fan??

Also, from what I have read in the FAQ's and posts, it seems my casings may need a bit moisture. I believe so because recently after moving them to the fruiting chamber, the casings have pulled away from their containers. Also, a bit of blueing coloration is taking place. Keep in mind, I do mist and fan the casings and chamber about 4 times a day. When I mist, I hold the spray bottle back about 4 feet. I have noticed lots of knots forming, so should I be worried about moisture at this stage?? If so, what can I do to apply enough moisture for the first fruit without having to dunk or worry about fucking them up?? Thanks!!
