Epilepsy and DMT
    #17018291 - 10/12/12 12:31 PM (11 years, 4 months ago)

I have Epilepsy. I have done DMT. In my experience seizures and DMT are closely related. I hear many things regarding NDE's and I have even heard people say outright that they have nothing to do with each other.
I disagree. I have, in the nano-seconds before full seizure takes physical control, experienced the "chrysanthemum", as well as other geometric envelopes and "Ohm beings" that have sat calm and peaceful before me, while emitting a deep and comforting tone. For many years I thought myself imagining it, or simply insane. It was not until I came across DMT two years ago that it all seemed to click.
What I had been experiencing my entire life for nano-seconds before the fear of my face hitting the floor and ultimate blackness took over, was extended into a ten minute journey into the multiverse. I do not know if DMT has an adverse effect on Epilepsy.. I had grande mal seizures at least once every three months up until I tried the spice. It has now been a year and a half and three more DMT experiences since a last had a seizure. This is not to say that I think DMT is a "fix". What it showed me was that I had nothing to fear, and that all is "ok".
My thought is that because of this core realization my synapse don't fire out of "body anxiety" and feeling overwhelmed. I have learned that there is always a calm place to breathe within your mind.
I believe Epilepsy can be considered an "altered state". Generally fellow Epileptics I have met are hyper-intelligent and displaced from the social norms. I would suggest it is due to a sub-conscious realization that we are half in and half out of this plane.

I did an interview for openmindtv.com regarding my first DMT experience. Have a look and please post any comments, or questions.
The title of the interview is "Aaron, aka Mr.Pink - Psychedelics saved my life"

WOW.

Makes the colorblind see new colors, cures cluster headaches, ceases seizures... Tryptamines are down right fucking miraculous (figuratively speaking, of course)

I shall check out your interview in a timely manner good sir.

I confirm your feelings I have had similar experiences before an epileptic attack that seem dmt like. In my theory, dmt is released when the brain is under extreme stress. It separates the brain from the reality of its dying, or its seizing which it maybe physiologically see as it is dying.

Also, there are real studies i'm sure you can find them here on shroomery, that show that mushrooms are an effective cure for terminal, or even regular cancer anxiety. They seem to give the user a much more positive attitude towards their situation. I think this is easily crossed over to epilepsy. Since DMT is much like psilocybin, it should have the same anti anxiety effects that stems from your seizures. The anxiety alone may very well cause you to have the seizure and if this is reduced, no more seizures!. I also had a 2 year free period of seizures after doing mushrooms. This obviously doesn't mean you are cured, but in a way it does. The the anxiety is the trigger for the seizure, and no anxiety means no seizure. Everyone is technically epileptic if you define it as the ability to have a seizure, everyone as a threshold, but epileptics have a threshhold that is low enough to cause an active seizure regularly. These psychedelics may just significantly up your threshhold by giving releaving you of your fear and giving you a positive attitude. These drugs can cause life changing experiences which can obviously have an effect on an epileptics brain activity. I know psychedelics can also cause seizures in some people but those people tend to have a strange psychedelic only epilepsy that can only be triggered by the trip. It may be stress induced since some trips canbe very stressful, watch out for that!

This is very interesting. I have not medically been diagnosed as epileptic but have had three seizures I can remember off the top of my head.  I have a friend who is epileptic and I've tried to get her to check out this site. She's into psychs too.

Is taking an maoi contraindicated with epilepsy medicine?

My good friend who introduced me to the deems, has epilepsy.  He has noticed that when he awakes from a seizure its like waking up from a dmt trip, and visa versa.  I don't know if he has emcountered any visuals or entitys though.  I will most certainly show him this thread.

I don't think that maois effect epilepsy medications. I take trileptal and have combined the use and nothing happened but it might depend on what medication you are taking

How interesting. The DMT experience really does seem to have a heavy link with the state of consciousness, or lack of consciousness as it plans to make its escape from the body. So in seizures the experience is triggered, in dreams it's triggered, people claim it happened at the moment of death, in the form of an NDE, and of course it happens when you overload your system with more of it.

Will check the interview out also.

I think, because of its power, it is very useful to the mind and body in terms of survival and mental imagery as well as psychedelic mental processes, which may or may not be part of human psychology. Severe stress can have lasting and damaging effects on the mind and body. This drug may be released to help the brain escape from stresses that offer the person no protection and to help in deep psychological-psychedelic functions of the brain.

Hey dude i know this post was a whiiiiiiiiile ago now but your post was absolutely fascinating; your experience of similarities between dmt and seizures. And comparison to NDEs.
Of course, the dmt theory is a primary theory for NDEs, and there's plentiful evidence now that its very neuroprotective in times of cellular stress, so may well release at death! Temporal lobe seizures are another theory for NDEs - though of course, as suggested by your experience, its very possible dmt is released in response to seizure activity.... So we have a potential DMT-seizure concoction going on.

im fascinated about the potentiating effect that a concurrent seizure may have on any psychedelic experience - which may be a kind of model for what transpires in the brain at death.... was really hoping if you could tell me if you had any enhanced trip experience/hallucinations etc due to any possible seizure-psychedelic combo???
Thank you!!!!
