We use corn in our corn MycoBag. There are posts on it used to grow out spawn for inoculation to other substrates. Corn works great.

nope not really.
heres something i pulled up from another place.

what i do is soak the popcorn in a plastic tub for 24 hours (i wouldn't go any longer, as the corn will start to sprout...)
then i rinse the hard kernels in a strainer... to answer one of your questions.. the corn will absorb SOME water durning that 24 hour period but not even close to enough.
the PCing of the corn by itself forces water into the kernel.
some say that as little as a half hour at 15 psi is enough, this shorter time will keep the number of 'burst' kernels down, which in turn will keep the starch at a minimum also.
I personally like the security of the full hour, not to mention i rinse the hell out of the corn after the hydration.(boiling for 1 hour will also work but not as well IMO)
So that makes up for the extra starch due to more burst kernels... as for the corn in the bottom of the PC, take the round pan that keeps the jars off the bottom out of the PC, you don't need it for hydration.
Now cover the kernels (they will sink like stated earlier) with water.
you want to go about two inches over the corn level. Now just PC that at 15 psi for an hour. as soon as the safety valve on the PC drops you can open it (be careful of the steam).
right away you are going to want to wash the inside of the lid with hot water, there will be a goo on it...
if you let this dry (pure starch) it is a BITCH to get off, so get it immediately. You are also going to want to rinse off the corn immediately also for this same reason.
any corn you can't fit into the strainer leave in the PC, but add extra clean water to the corn if it's going to be sitting there for longer than five minutes.
again for the same reason, the starch will start to goop up on the corn kernels and is REALLY hard to get off.
let the corn drain for ten minutes, personally i wouldn't do the three hours thing, it's pointless if you are going to towel dry anyways.
not to mention i would be afraid it would dry out my corn too much. you just want to outside to be 'dryer' not the good stuff on the inside.
then just load and PC again at 15 psi for 30 min. and you are ready to innoc.

Theres others ways too,im sure but this is the first i pulled up that was from a experianced grower.
