I'm just gonna throw this out there Rombino; if I prep my coir too wet, my tubs tend to start showing green after the first flush to. Could be coincidence, but it's something ez to try.

Sorry Mush, not sure if that was in reference to me, or what its supposed to mean if it is lol. I do have Agar plates made that are clean right now. This latest tub is a clone I did on agar. Everything else I've done has been with MS syringes. Should I open an agar plate up and see what grows? I assume that's what you mean? Just a newb seeking enlightenment, or even a clue what to do.... Lol

Thanks Lurker, good a possibility as any. I do squeeze out coir to field capacity, or what I think is capacity, maybe a need to give a better squeezing.... Thanks for info man

Mold hasn't been bad for me. Only time I get mold lately in a tub before first flush is if the grain isn't covered. And none of my jars contam without me already suspecting it due to my own error.
One very satisfying and infuriating thing about this hobby is that it's almost all on you. Like playing Dark Souls.

You can either fail because of your situation or succeed in spite of it. Its all perspective.

Here are some PE dishes that I transferred off of their MS plate on 6-25. Have some really great growth (from what I can tell) on most of them. Only can see visible bacterial growth on one golden teacher dish, have one that seems clean so I will transfer her later today.

Bacterial GT Plate

Any thoughts on which of the PE plates looks the best, or is that a stupid thing to say because what matters is how they perform once spawned? Well I think I just answered my own question there. Planning to put some of these to grain to see how they do over the next week.
Thanks, N.Kron

my brain is made of graphine and flattened plat matter, take notes he say. Noted, I have a couple stacks of malt agar pre pours and a pc on the way, coincidentally, I ordered a gt ms as well. I’m going bird seed since I’ll have the new presto canner here’s a nip slip of my workspace in its current state.

**** This is my first time using Agar as well, once you have your PC I wouldn't be scared of it at all. I would suggest using an inoculation loop (can easily be made from household items if you dont want to spend anymore dough.) and streak your plates. I just did squirts onto my dishes out of the MS syringe and it caused a lot of issues since I found squirting only one drop very difficult. I found BOD's Easy AF Agar Tek, just do a search for it. I would use BOD's Easy AF Agar tek as a guide as I found it easy to follow (Just follow all the instructions to a T and dont change anything) If you can do that you will be fine.
Ive done my transfers in a SAB like yours in my living room, with almost no issues or contamination. Quality of your MS Syringe will also show very quickly with the Agar dishes. I could see that my PE syringe was very very clean (MS dishes showed no visible contams) But I still transferred at least once more and waited about a week until the dishes looked like this and I could confirm no contams were present. The GT MS Syringe I got from the same vendor had quite a few nastys pop up on the first two transfers. Very lucky I decided to do Agar instead of MS>Grain with that one because all 10 of those jars would likely have contam'd.
For those wondering about my agar recipe. I use a premixed MEA Agar powder from a vendor here that has a 12% discount when you use the code "Im Back" If you go to the vendors forum it will be easy to figure out who it came from. I purchased the premixed for its simplicity for these first two sleeves of dishes, but have now moved to buying the Malt Extract powder and the agar powder separately to save on cost. In my future runs I will be following BOD's MEA agar Recipe since everything Ive followed of his has led me in the right direction.
Im stoked to be putting my first Agar>grain tomorrow so I can see the rapid speed of growth vs MSS>Grain. My first 40 jars of PE are about 90% colonized, but its taken the better part of 3 weeks since inoculation.
Wish me luck yall!!

Oh I can tell it's myc in person. Used a Texas Yellow Cap MS syringe. Didn't have a needle so I just uncapped it and used a few drops on each plate. This is one of 9 and they all have similar signs of growth. I'll be taking transfers from each and then innoculating pints as masters for quarts and bags. Just started from scratch since I had a trich fest when the temps here went up.
