Did the jars cool down enough? What's the temperature of spore death?
    #25306128 - 07/03/18 09:21 AM (6 years, 6 months ago)

Hi everyone. I am kinda new to growing. I've grown (including just instructing friends via skype) only two times, both times pf tek B+.

The first time I did it it turned out good, but I haven't done it in two years since then until several days ago.

My friends live in a different city so I was telling them what to do throughout the whole process. After sterilizing the substrate in jars, I told them to cool it off for at least several hours before inoculating. But their impatient asses just put the jars under a fan for 20 minutes  :facepalm3: .

They told me that jars were room temp to the touch, but they have no idea how hot they were on the inside.

So my question is: Is it possible that three piping hot 250ml jars of substrate could've cooled down to safe temps in just 20 minutes under a fan? It has been 2 days and there's no signs of colonisation (I know it takes a lot longer usually but still).

Here's my first grow btw:

Edit: Can't attach a picture for some reason. Here's an imgur link: https://i.imgur.com/Qqtsg2i.jpg?1

Hard to say if the spores will survive since no one knows the actual temperature they've been exposed and how long they were exposed to it before it cooled. If your friend has spores to spare though I would reinoculate them.

2 days is nothing. I dont see colonization until 4 or 5.

Yeah you could have cooked your spores. Time will tell.

Buy another syringe and start over I guess.

I would say that nine times out of ten, you cooked the spores. Twenty minutes isn't no where near enough time to cool down the jars. We still have to go with the 'who knows what will happen' clause, though. You never know if the spores made it to a cooler spot on the edges and survived. If you don't see anything within a week, they're cooked. My spores usually germinate within five days and show decent growth. I'd do like Tiger says and buy more supplies and try again as soon as you can.

Even under a fan? :frown:

I would say 20m with a fan isn't nearly long enough and they should still be burning fucking hot inside.
