Super rhizomorphic growth or... what’s is this??
    #25305709 - 07/03/18 02:46 AM (6 years, 6 months ago)

My last grow looked nothing like this during colonization. Here is a pic. Day 4 colonized but these strands are unlike anything I’ve seen before in my grows.

Was I believe the 4th agar transfer to whole oats

Looks kinda like a bacteria contaminated jar, the way the myc has become so tendril-like.

Those strands are quite cool, I like em, I have only seen these "strands" (for lack of a better term), when I did a tray last grow, from grain spawn. I wouldn't be too concerned if it was me.

If you zoom it you can see similar strands. One thing I might mention is personally I wouldn't have it as wet as it looks to me like you have it... Getting good FAE on it?

Hoping it isn't bacterial for your sake, but I can see where Lemgrub is coming from, does remind me of bacterial jar threads.

Seem a bit wet for my taste. I would try to up the fae if it was my tub and monitor the response.

Yeah at least a little bit especially when wet, less fae than fruiting yes but you still want a little fae going I would of thought

You can induce fruiting conditions at spawn.

Those little spikes of myc will lay down if and when you start misting.

Nothing to be concerned about. It does that because it's reaching for oxygen, perhaps from a thin layer of Co2 that settles on top of the substrate. Mycelium breathes oxygen, just like you, so when you seal it up in a box, it's gonna go searching for oxygen, and food.

It's normal. Those are rhizomorphs, basically large bundles of mycelium that will transfer nutrients to the fruit bodies when they form.

Personally, I wouldn't give it more FAE until you start seeing pins. There is no way that tub is sealed to the point that it cannot get a little oxygen as is. I found if you wait until you see pins to introduce FAE, you usually have a better pin set. The last thing that you want to do is dry out the top before the pins come in. Spikes are not a bad thing and actually shows that the tub is growing healthily. The higher CO2 levels at substrate level is what is wanted at this point. Plus, why take the chance of introducing extra contams before it has a chance to pin? Just because you can do something, doesn't mean it's the best course of action to take. There's an old saying: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Your sub isn't broke.

I had a similar question i did a couple test jars from 2 different LC's and one of the jars colonized like a brick(jar on left) is this still good mycelium growth ?

The one on the left definitely doesn’t look good to me, are those BRF cakes? You need a layer of vermiculite or at least that’s what I remember

... okay so I’m getting conflicting answers here. FAE or to not FAE lol

Would you suggest doing as the others day? Bring to fruiting conditions at this point?

This looks like what happens when myc tries to colonize a wet sub. Introducing fae now is a great decision.

To the people who say you shouldn't introduce fae before pins form.. read this thread:
