Well, coir doesn't take much prep? Just throw it in a bucket, or a cooler or whatever with some hot water. Once it absorbs the water it's ready.
I was only saying coir to add some better water retention. I guess verm could be added too which takes no prep. But u would have to add water. I don't really call that prep tho. As long as I can avoid pasturizing for hours on end I'm good.
So bigsurmoon, u don't even add water to the bk? I'm surprised it works that well without adding water. Every time I get bk or bovung it's pretty dry.

Haha coir is labor intensive! (Sarcasm) No water, i just mist twice a day. This bag im on now seems drier. I just love being lazy and still have decent results. Im not picky, and I really dont have high standards, I learned pretty quick that I dont have the attention to detail, and the patience it takes to be a great cultivator. I just have fun growing. Im gonna go get a few more bags and stock up for the cold season, lol. I have time during the winter months, so Im sure I will do some experimenting. Good to see ya here still nube

Anybody have a suggestion a which pin from which cluster I should clone?
It does colonize well, Sometimes i think we impose are thoughts on the whole thing. It has sticks, and rocks, and all kinds of shit in it, just like outdoors, where they all came from.
I'm using potting soil & my myc seems to love it. I bought this big bag of organic stuff from the depot for like $6 and it's full of composted nutrients the myc may be able to use. I prep it via Violet's casing prep tek: First I sift out the sticks & chucks through a fine mesh strainer & it comes out like espresso ground coffee.

I hydrate it past field capacity & microwave out the extra moisture. This is done 2x, 18-24 hours apart & the result is fluffy & well hydrated & any gnat eggs & mold spores which may have been riding along in the mix are dead.
This is 72 hours from spawning, 1:1, RGS & the prepped potting soil, pseudocased at spawning:

Then at eight days (last night):

IMO, potting soil is probably not the right choice for most, but it definitely works well.

Not the one I was thinking of but natures care is good stuff. Says its yucca and coir. So I can see why it works good. When I hear potting soil I think of the old stuff, that cheap brown shit full of perlite.

Miracle grow moisture control is similar. I've used that with good results too.. The thing I like about the black kow is manure. It makes using poo easier and more accessible for us city folk. And like stated above, could be an easy way to do pans.

I wanna try pans too! Got a bunch of cube varieties coming, next bunch is gonna be edibles and pans.

I just spawn 4qts of pan jams to some yesterday. I was going to throw them out anyway, so figured I would just experiment.

I didn't do anything except add a little water. I was going to throw this spawn away, because I knew it would suck no matter what I did.

I love it, im excited to see what other people think. Especially from experienced growers, I kind thought i was being a lazy noob by using bk, but it starting to look like it has a place in cultivation. Who knows maybe some months down the road it might deserve a tek. From a noobs pov, it cant get easier.

Hello all, just wanted to go over my process with some pics, I spawned 4 shoeboxes each with 2pts shady wbs. Got a little wet during sterilizing but wtf, ill spawn em. So I throw in spawn and put in roughly 4 scoops of black kow, straight out of the bag, adding nothing. Ratio looks like this Then I mix it up good by hand and level it off nice Then I usually put one more scoop of bk to cover the grains This time Im doing two with the "casing scoop", and two without. Heres how they look all done. And thats it! Easy like sunday morning.
And heres some shitty second frushes on the trays.

Update on the black kow, straight outta the bag with 6 qts of BACTERIAL spawn. Not bad for store bought manure and not very healthy spawn.
I don't weigh my harvests wet, but it's 2.6 oz dry.

Thats awesome, its cool stuff, did notice one of my tubs has got little flies, and some grass growing in it. But it works awesome, just have to mist mine at least once a day. I should have something worth showing soon.

Yea the flies definitely hitched a ride cuz it wasn't pasteurized. Not many tho. I've only seen 1 in this tub. Which I don't think is too bad for not cooking it at all. Maybe there's an insecticide that could come in handy for unpasteurized bulk?...
