It works but coir is just as cheap. Black kow is kinda dirty for messing around with it indoors. Outdoors, I think I'm gonna buy a few bags again in spring time and find out. Was also thinking about doing an outdoor pan grow with it, but idk if that would be possible in my area

In my CVG vs BK shoeboxes the CVG is taking a lead on colonization but the BK is much more rhrizomorphic. I wonder if it has to do with water content? The BK box has always been much heavier and denser but appears dryer. Anytime that I have missed them the beads disappear almost immediately into the BK sub.

Black kow is waaaaay cheaper than coir, i got 50lbs for 1$ you show me where i can get 50lbs of coir for a dollar i will eat a bag of black kow! Its not messy if you keep it in a tote, leave the scoop in it.

I thinks thats benefical to the grow, you do have to keep an eye on them, but ive havent had a crusted, or matted surface like coir boxes do. It always colonizing super fast and rhizo, and then it always pins before the whole surface gets covered. Wich i also think could be helpful, cause the whole sub beneath the surface gets colonized fully, its like with coir it can colonize the whole surface but under that its spotty. I have some coir shit going I. Will post the pics when i get home, it will show what im trying to exlplain.lol

That's because coir is completely dried out and there's rocks in bk making it heavier. Hydrate 3 bricks of coir and see how much it weighs. And that's without rocks and sticks... Just the 3 gal of water u add is 24lb. Plus 4.5lb for the 3 bricks. Basically 30 lbs and will be the same volume as a bag of bk. Half a brick of coir fills my mini mono like 4"

Ur definitely right about that tho, mycelium seems to love bk. I get great colonization every time.

Just pointing out that a lot of the weight in that 50 pounds is water rocks and sticks. If u remove that stuff and dry it in the sun, I'm sure it won't weigh much.

I'll post a comparison pic after work. Might be like you said, the surface on the CVG is out in front but it may be a closer comparison throughout.

Better grower now, for sure but im currently doing coir boxes and they look terrible imo, and i treat them the same.  I dont think the weight thing is a fair anology, If i can get say 10 30qt tubs out of a bag, wich cost a dollar. One brick of coir cost more than a dollar, and im pretty confident you wont get more than 10 30qt tubs from it.

Ok my anology sucked too. Bottom line, one bag of bk, will go further than one brick of coir, wich costs more, granted we are talking a few bucks, lol.
