Heres the box before "selective harvest",lol.
Heres what I left to grow out.
Floated it so it could get a dunk. Sub seemed solid, should make to another frush.

Under $10 for 50# isn't bad. Cheaper than most coir if you add the water weight into it. 3pack of 650g bricks + water is like 25-26 pounds for me.

It is super cheap! Have you read the bluelou thread? Im anticipating some sort of limitation or downfall, lol. It seems too easy, and too good to be true. Im gonna mess with it for a while, I have a bag and a half, and no time. I had to bring 3 shoeboxes out of town with me just I could keep an eye on them. I know its retarded, but i couldnt just leave em! Wish i had an apprentice, lol.

So a little update:
Lost my shoebox to the nasty's. thinking it could have been a combo of neglect for last 3 days, and the stump, abort forest i left. Or, not wanting to admit, but very well could've been the spawn. Either way, try,try again.
This guy was 1/2pt to bk in a little tray

With the bovung, it's about the same wetness as peat unless the bag gets rained on a lot. So pretty dry, but has a little dampness feel to it. I've just experimented with it a couple times, but I just add small amounts of water till its at field cap. I do it a little under field cap actually. I'm playing around with prep, sterilized it once and pasteurized it once. Gonna go for unsterile technique like u next time.
Just to add, my bag of it sits outside and the weather has gotten it to perfect field capacity. And even being closed up in the bag wet, it doesn't have any trace of mold anywhere I can see. So seems pretty contain resistant on its own.
And the DEHYDRATED Is the manure. So it's dehydrated manure mixed with humus. Not composted which is probly why it had double the nutes. Idk if that's a good or bad thing yet.

So far i havent added any water to it during prep, but i have yet to get it to flush more than once. Wich i believe is directly related to the lack of moisture. I have a couple little trays that are going for flush two, they dry out daily. I might have to try adding water during prep/spawn. Next week Im going to spawn some more shoeboxes, and hopefully enough spawn to do a 32qt unmodified, I got some 14qt totes the other day i might try as well.

Maybe try making a thicker sub. 4" depth won't dry out like 2" will. Maybe add a handful of MG moisture control. It's basically coco and peat mixed together.

Thats what its called? Mg moisture control? I suppose one could use verm as well. I like the lazy shit tho, but one flush is a waste of spawn imo.

Miracle grow is MG and moisture control is the specific type of "soil". Or u can just use coir verm or peat.
Do u pasteurize? Maybe u should test the ph, maybe it needs lime to make it multiple flushes.

Depends on the flush. When I was growing at scale I never let shit go for more than one. The real estate became more valuable than the sub.

Yea if u can push out a huge first flush and have more stuff ready to go. Who cares. Especially with such cheap ingredients that don't take much work.

I dont pasturize the bk. I do bucket tek coir, cvg. Im still pretty green with bulk substrates. Im going to read about ph. Its something ive read, but have no understanding of its effect. The whole point of using the bk was cause its cheap and no prep. Imo, anything I have to do besides grabbing it and mixing with spawn defeats the whole purpose. I really want to work on its own. But some tweeks might make it worthwile, I have noticed that theres seems to be more rhyzo growth during colonizing compared to my coir, or cvg subs. If that means anything. Im sure its too early to make judgements.

Thats kind of how I feel too, It just seems like I waste a lot of stuff also. Lol. What do you mean by at scale?
Wanted to add, if its a good flush then it wouldnt bother me i guess. But if it sucked then it would feel like a waste. But i cant help but thinking.. your overthinking!

At larger scale. One flush monos put out more if u have an assembly line set up.
And subs with a higher ph contaminate easier because it makes it more favorable for contaminants than the mycelium. If u lower the ph to 5 it should do better, that's assuming the ph is high and that's why it's done after 1 flush.
And pasturizing is usually essential to indoor growing. If u wanna skip being sterile and pasty rising stuff ur best bet would probly be wood lovers and outdoor cultivation.

What contaminants are you referring to? Everything I can find states that fungi prefer an acidic environment in the the pH range of 5-6. This is why casing materials are pH adjusted up, to make them less favorable to both the fungus one is cultivating as well as airborne fungal contaminants.

I'm not that educated. Ok I just mean if the ph is off. The problem is more likely that u didn't pasteurize it.

It was a larger tub than I thought. It's a 72 qt but has less surface area than my 62qt.? Well I spawned 4 fresh clean wbs qts of f+ to roughly 4 qts bovung. I just dropped agar in those last Friday so they were fast and look pretty clean to me.
