I ran my first online business running a web host reselling and website design service in the 1990s.  I was only 13 years old at the time, but it put my first fat stacks of cash in my pocket.  Ran another considerably more capital intensive online business retailing custom branded audio products (which I contracted a local OEM to manufacture for me) for several years in the 2000s until my manufacturing partner went bankrupt.  Been helping to run this website since 2004.

What's on your mind and what type of business are you considering?

That sounds so awesome! I'm really not sure to be honest with you geokills. What has peaked my interest is something called drop shipping. It's where you advertise/sell other companies products and these companies ship that item directly to the buyer for you on your behalf. I did a online business search on Facebook and out of nowhere began seeing sponsor ads for online business courses. I checked them out but only one got back to me. After listening to a one hour sales pitch over the phone he finally told me the cost for the program. $5,500... And he stressed that outcomes vary and there were no guarantee's. I was just curious if others here had an online business. Thanks so much for responding geokills...

Having a drop-shipped resale operation is nice because it doesn't typically require a high amount of initial capital, as you can presumably pay for the goods when orders are placed with the buyers money, and you collect the spread between what you charge the end buyer versus what you pay the drop-shipper.  One potential problem with this sort of business model is that competition is fierce these days, squeezing the profit margins in the spread very thin, which means you have to make up for it in high sales volume.  While I'm sure there are some niche products with which you can make this sort of arrangement work, opportunities in the space are harder to find primarily because major marketplaces such as Amazon aggregate so many products from so many different sellers, and then back them with an unbeatable customer satisfaction policy including free returns.

Online business isn't really its own isolated sector.  Almost every business has an online portal through which to reach and engage customers.  So my recommendation to you would be to forget about the $5,500 specialized online business course, and go to a local community college to take any and all of the business courses they have available, including some basic economics courses if you are really just starting to get your feet wet.

Good luck!

I ran several small e-commerce websites but I have sold them now as they were all in the lgal high sector which I don't wish to be involved in anymore.

I'm looking to create a new one at the moment but I'm struggeling to decide on a product.  I need something I can get for low start up costs from the wholesalers in China.

I never liked the idea of drop shipping because they could easily steal your customer base and put you out of business just by including their business card when they send the goods.

Also savvy customers would notice that the goods were not dispatched from your business location and may be able to determine your supplier from that info.

Thanks Everyone for responding to my thread! I really appreciate all of you! Wildedible-eater... I've been spending alot of time looking into CBD the past two weeks. There are so many companies out there! Upto this point I had narrowed it down to two companies based on product quality, reputation and compensation program. I'm going to look into your company and get back to you.. OK? I reach out to you within a few days... PeaCe2U and everyone else!

Just to give you an idea, I BIN'd some 18th and 19th century dollars and made a killing last weekend and never had to touch a thing.

Dealers hate people who do this with coins but haters gonna hate. There's good money in it if you know what item you'll specialize in, but as geokills mentioned, profits are usually razor thin, almost along the lines of hotel profits.

I made an affiliate marketing based website. Sadly, I'm still unable to concentrate on it due to work and extra freelancing work fml

I get paid shit and probably thinking I should concentrate my whole efforts on content marketing

I used to do some dropshipping and other online money making schemes, and honestly unless you are going to put 40 hours a week into them and work your ass off the same way you would at a real job, they are going to do poorly. They take a lot of time and work to get off the ground, need a lot of care and attention, and then by the time they are running themselves well, you will need to pivot into something else to diversify, so now your back on the grind.

Its a lot easier just to get a 9-5, but I know thats not how everyone feels.

I'm getting to the point of needing a website. I'm doing very well on collectibles, estate and storage unit stuff. I'm a collector of a few things myself so it's easy. The rest of the stuff gets donated to the impoverished minorities in my community and at work. I've kept logs of this I'm sure it's some kind of write off.

I'm worried though it's maybe time to get a business license and set taxes aside. I had a weak finish to my second quarter but still tripled Q1.  I'm selling on Amazon, eBay and Etsy. I never thought it'd get this big and it's getting bigger. I've been doing my homework but jesus christ this is a ton of work. I'm just glad my paycheck takes out too much in taxes and I've kept every receipt, mile and invoice.

Great ad ice Geokills.

That 5,500 class sounded like a scam. But a commity college course for all those business classes could cost that much. Could try buying a college textbook on business and self teach

I used to havr a sort of online business. I had a website making "gig" back in the old days. Also sold bikes online thru Craigslist. Worked pretty well.

As long ad u find your niche that hasnt already been taken, u will suceed. Competition is tough and common, so its critical to find a specific business model with little competition.
