best honey water/karo tek?

hello all,
I have about 2 cc's of spore solution left in a syringe and I want to use a honey or karo tek to increase this to make enough to innoculate about 10 jars. I was thinking of trying a modification of : this tek which clones from a fruitbody, and not directly from spores.
So, what is the best way to go about doing this? The steps as I understand them are basically: mix honey or karo with water, sterilize, inject spores into solution, let it colonize until white threadlike mycelium growth is seen, suck the solution back into a clean syringe and use to directly innoculate BRF jars.
Does that sound about right?
Any more detailed information to help me?
Is honey just as good as Karo syrup?
thx

Yea the broken glass is to help break up the mycelium.
When youre ready to suck it back into the syringe, you shake the container, and the piece(s) of glass help to break the mycelium up.

I'm a huge fan of the honey tek. Its SO simple.
I use a jar with a plastic lid, poke a hole in the lid just big enough for my syringe. Wash everything with alcohol. Put 1 tablespoon of honey into the jar 3/4 full of warm water and give it a stir, then put it in the microwave on medium for 5 minutes. While its doing that, I clean a piece of tinfoil with a bunch of alcohol (isopropyl, ethyl, whatever) and when its done, i quickly cover the jar with the foil. Let it cool then squirt 1-2cc into the jar.
A lot of teks say to put something into the jar like broken glass or marbles... u can, i could see it being good, but i never have and i never have a problem. Be sure to give it some time. you'll see growth in a few days, but in a week it will explode with growth if you shake it once every 2-3 days.

great detailed info, mg420, thanks.
what is a good ratio for honey to water? i.e. 1 tbsp requires __cc's of H20 to get the right consistency
How much of this solution do you need to innoculate 1 jar? I use 1 cc of spores per jar, do you need more of the honey solution per jar?
do you incubate the jar at room temp or colder/hotter?

I think you've mistaken me for a pro, haha.
I used a 3/5th full pint jar with a little more than a tablespoon of honey. I also tried the same amount of water with a teaspoon and it didn't work nearly as well. Sounds to me like making sure its all dissolved is all you need to worry about... if that. As long as you are clean, i don't see why any 'reasonable' amount would be too much.
From what I hear honey water can be treated like spores. I use 2cc per jar, but that's really just cuz i've got so much i might as well be safe. If i can arrange it, i'll get a pic of my really well colonized honey water so you know what to look for. (of course by "my" I mean the one that I saw in a museum... yeah...)

hhmm..interesting - molasses has more sugars to feed the mycelium?
do you guys incubate the solution @ room temperature or otherwise?
when do you know that it has colonized enough to suck it back into the syringe?

Dextrose is even better than honey or corn syrup or molasse. But these three works too. you can usually find dextrose in the bulk section of grocerie stores or if not you can get it in beer brewery stores. The ratio i heard works best is one Teaspoon/100 ml of water . 1 teaspoon is 5 ml .
Incubate it at 80-82f, the same as you incubate any Cubensis spawn.
It's colonized enough when you can see big clouds of white mycelium floating in your solution !! I like to wait until it looks like a third of the water solution but you can use it before, or after .. As long as you have nice white stuff in the water it works..
good luck !

I would like to add....Sometimes it takes a little longer than a week to see results. For whatever reason I've had jars show nice fluffy clouds in a week, and other times it takes about 2 or more. My point is, don't freak out if after 7 days you can't really see much in the jar. Good luck.

i'm a HUGE fan of the super easy karo tek... I didn't think karo could be made this easy, but angryjslice made me a believer! I'd definitely recomend trying this tek out, it worked great for me.

That's the 'super easy honey tek'...
If you use the search function, it's easy to pull all this info (just type 'honey'... choose 'Mushrooms and Mycology' and go for 1 year and it's all there )

What if you used the left over water from boiling potato's and mixed it with the honey/karo? That would give you the sugars and the dextrose. hmm, have to try that sometime.
