Mycelium finally appearing?
    #25288782 - 06/24/18 09:00 AM (2 years, 10 months ago)

So I started 3 BRF cakes on 17/06/2018 and the growth has been very very slow. Yesterday I had to rethink if I let the water cool before adding spores to my syringe, but I believe I let it cool.

Last night I reinnoculated number one with an entire syrimge just to see if it will make a difference, yet to find out...

The main problem I believe is the cool weather and not appropriate heating equipment. I have left a analog thermometer in the box which the jars are colonizing and it's constantly around 20°C. I have an old lamp constantly on over the box to heat it up with little success.

A week later and today I was thinking of reinnoculating the jars but found tiny dots of what I believe is white mycelium growth in all 3!

Could I please get some information on if it's likely mycelium or contam?

Dude it's been a week. Relax. Obviously this is ur first one, so congrats. But give it some time man. It takes usually 7-14 days b4 u really start seeing growth.

Just be happy this is faster than growing pot. Once u get a few grows under ur belt ull see how fast this process actually is. But yea it looks like mycelium. Hard to tell yet, so just let it grow and keep reading and searching thru stuff.

My go to teks are always bods and hamloafs. If u wanna take some time and read thru their teks.

Remove the tin foil from ur jars too. They need gas exchange. Assuming u put holes in the lid and dry Verm on top

Welcome UrbanCubensis !! and nice job on your first inoculations. i do see growth so you're going to be happy if you keep it up. I try to not over inoculate my jars to keep away all the problems that I might have to compensate for with the over-hydration and extra contam risk that it can cause. 20C (68F) is kinda cool for a colonization temp. bump it up to 26C (78F-80F). maybe place in cupboard above refrigerator or a slightly warmer location. Heck, even 31C (87F) is fine for me, faster growth!

Then when you are ready to fruit you bring them back into that cooler 20C-24C (68F-75F) environment.
:goodluck: from across the pond friend, and keep us posted!

It's the start of something!  Looks like myc to me... did you inoculate in the center? Sticking the side of the jar, I've seen jars show in 2 days, and take 2 weeks! Moisture content, genetics, age and storage/ condition of innoculant etc. Congrats on the fuzz!

Edit: ditch the foil if filter is in place, they need to breathe!

Looks like it could definitely be the start of some mycelium, but it's probably still a little too soon to tell for sure.

But you've gotta get that foil off the jar. The foil is gonna block your gas exchange and cause your jars to stall out. You should have a dry verm layer for a filter and 2-4 small holes in the lid. The foil should be discarded after inoculation.

Hey all!
I’m so surprised with how great everyone in this forum is, I never expected such a response.
Yes this is my first ever grow, so I have much to learn!

Sorry about the foil on top, I believed it was meant to be left on but I understand now. I left dry verm on top and inoculated down the side on 4 points and slowly lifted the syringe through inoculating them.

All the fuzzy white dots have slightly increased in size this morning, growing mushrooms is so much more enjoyable than plants! Very rewarding.

Also will work on raising the temp, shouldn’t take much.

Okay so, the foil was removed shortly after receiving the comments and 10 days post-inoculation they are exploding!

Here are some images, It's so rewarding so far, especially being my first 3 jars ever!
