Agreed. I had a batch that covered completely with these blobs and never produced a single RW :frown: I wasn't a happy camper and have no idea why it occurred when I'd had two batches turn out fantastically from the same LC.

I’ve had many false starts with Rusty Whyte  ... including the comical one recently when I thought a mislabeled APE culture (actually a leucistic Penis Envy uncut I didn’t know I had) was a Rusty grow...

Well tonight I put my best looking rusty plates on grain so my fingers are crossed one again...

All right. Curious too see what happens! I'll be keeping close watch.

Also I plan for failure, so more RW are following behind

I think this happens when the coirs is too wet also or when conditions aren't right. I'm noticing more and more that RW is very picky on how wet or dry the coir is.  At least in my experience with my destablized RW. Of course this is true with every mushies but more so with my RW. Could just be my experience

Uh oh. Reading about these blobs and possible too-wet conditions makes me anxious about my current first batch. Seeing these white knobs which I'm hoping are knots. Thinking giving it some top-off time to dry out though. Any thoughts? Currently i just have the tops on upside down, Bod-style

Try to avoid that pooling water on the substraight from the run down on ur tub sides. I just carefully take a corner of a paper towel to it to soak it up. It's really not too bad tho u could probably just leave it. Other then that it looks great  U definitely have knots and pins forming :super: ur surface conditions look good. That's going to be a nice tub.

I also do that a lot too but I don't like to do it before the first flush is over because sometimes a side of the tub will pull away from the substraight then BAM side pins everywhere lol

Would love to try growing some of these, where would I go to find prints? Don’t have access to marketplace, yet. May need to wait another couple months?

The other tray is still blobbing with no real fruits.

Should I cut everything off and see if it's going to put out regular fruits later, or is that not happening?

When I made that tray I had some substrate left (same batch of spawn!), which was put into this little box and fruited in bag.

This one seems to hold some actual mushrooms  At least they look more like them.

Tweeq- I would wait a couple days. Then harvest them both at the same time and go for a second fruiting. I think u might get some better fruits the second time around  scarface conditions are very important with all mushies but especially these.

So I woke up and saw this (my tubs are right next to my bed so I wake up to mushies (and usually harvesting them) every morning)

I thought my cat had been messing with my micropore tape but nope, Just mushies wanting to see the world  I had two layers on there too! Strong mushies...

P.s. see all those side mushies. I pulled away that side to bottom water a bit and the next day SIDEPINS GALOR

Can't wait to see how this clone produces, the other ones didn't perform well enough to keep... Looks like it might have some potential...should see more pins popping soon

Definitely a slow variety if conditions aren’t perfect. Here are a few of my tubs pinning.

First timer. Been doing my homework for years. Start with RW spores to agar. Used a scalpel and scraped em into pastyplates. Could only find some big ass ziploc twist tops with Iron man graphics on them lol. So big could only fit 3 in the pc. So started with 3 plates, 2 started after 3 days and turned out beautiful.... i think

http://

The third one didnt start and had some white residue on the surface, did some reading thought it might be dry so flipped upside down and it started by the next morning. A week later it looks bad,  fuzzy blotches over the entire surface, and spores were only spread in big clumps in one or 2 areas of each plate.

So after 6 days from start, i decided to take 3 transfers from one plate to new plates. Seem to go perfectly.

Let me know what you think. Plan to go to wbs next, bunch of g2g then coir

 Lookin' good so far. I would definitely do a few more transfers before putting it to grain tho just to be sure. Good luck! :super:

Thanks for the advice. I will do that but what would you do with the old plates? If they still look healthy would you transfer them to grain ?

Prime, how you land RW spores with no grows,  and only 20 posts per year? I'd wait for the old plates to pin and clone them for easy fruiting culture(s), then run them side by side in shoeboxes a few times to determine a winning culture based on colonization speed, time to pin, time to harvest,  likelihood of decent subsequent flushes, overall yield etc
