What's your favorite flower? * 1
    #25278415 - 06/19/18 08:41 AM (5 years, 9 months ago)

Cranking up the ghey of the Pub, what is your favorite flower, if you had to pick one?

For me its the Blue Passionflower (Passiflora caerulea)

It was my favorite before I knew it contains in fact Harmine.

Which would you pick?

Add a pic and latin name if you got it, cause we're worldwide and people cant tell that your Daisy is their Madeliefje.

Took these pics in '07; the first pics that i uploaded to the shroomery taken by myself actually.  I was told in a vision(by a female spirit who appeared similar to an older Native American) long ago to never eat the flowers ov the Datura plant and i have always abided by this.  I only consume the leaves ov Datura for my annual Hecate summoning.  The presence ov Datura under the summer moon is absolutely fantastic.  Every morning during my adoration ov her majesty Hecate, i utter the phrase "May your Datura and Henbane grow and prosper" as the phytognostic plant and genii are sacred unto her.

The evolutionary strategy of these flowers is fascinating.

Why are they the colour they are? Which predator are they mimicking to keep the pests away? Which insect are they attracting with that color. What smell do they have and why have they developed it? What does it attract/repel?

Is the shape of the flower suppose to look like the predator of the insect that kills that flower?

What symboitic relationship have they developed in their environment to survive the test of time?

Fucking fascinating.

They're similar in ways, they're parasitic myco-heterotropic - meaning they have a relationship with fungi - specifically russula- which in themselves are symbiotic with trees - so ultimately they get their nutrients from the photosynthesis of a tree - has a symbiotic relationship with Russula fungi in fixing certain nutrients - the Indian Ghost Pipe taps into the Russula mycelium and saps it of its nutrients to survive.

Growing up we had a lot of them on our property and I'd spend hours as a kid pinching the backs of them so it looked like they were talking.
Can't imagine how many I killed.

I love the obscene amount of one foot long flowers of tree daturas (Brugmansia) which are sometimes so fragrant that oin a warm day you smell them a block away.

I herd you like brugmansia flowers, so I put brugmansia flowers in your brugmansia flowers. Twelve dozen.

I wish I could buy affordable genuine brugmansia essential oil some place. I looked for it but only found fragrance creations and other. That smell is out of this world.

petunias jus seem so drab and basic to me unless ur constantly deadheading them. I like a nice new guinea impatiens or even a begonia. have u guys seen those new double sunpatiens? absolute cracked of a plant can take almost anything u throw at it n she jus blooms all summer. unbelievable

I love flowers!

I especially love peonies.

Also lilac, rose and honeysuckle. The little bitty edible violets that pop up early in Spring...Dandelion (don't underestimate this "weed" the whole plant is highly medicinal), chamomile...lavender.

the prob with dandelions is many people want to see a well manicured lawn to serve as a foundation to the tapestry of flowers they weave when landscaping. I think dandelion is an amazingly versatile plant. but I dont want them in my lawn. if ur grass is happy dandelions shouldn't ever be a srs problem tho

The Foxglove is a very magical flower also!

It has the power to kill you, and save your life - given the circumstance.

"
A group of medicines extracted from foxglove plants are called digitalin. The use of D. purpurea extract containing cardiac glycosides for the treatment of heart conditions was first described in the English-speaking medical literature by William Withering, in 1785, which is considered the beginning of modern therapeutics. It is used to increase cardiac contractility (it is a positive inotrope) and as an antiarrhythmic agent to control the heart rate, particularly in the irregular (and often fast) atrial fibrillation. Digitalis is hence often prescribed for patients in atrial fibrillation, especially if they have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure.

Digitalis toxicity (Digitalis intoxication) results from an overdose of digitalis and causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, as well as sometimes resulting in xanthopsia (jaundiced or yellow vision) and the appearance of blurred outlines (halos), drooling, abnormal heart rate, cardiac arrhythmias, weakness, collapse, dilated pupils, tremors, seizures, and even death.
"

Absolutely!

Young leaves are used in salads in star restaurants.

The flowers can be picked and eaten like candy. Flavorful.

I pull the root, wash it thoroughly and eat it raw not to harm the active principles.

I even collected dandelion seeds this year, I intend to grow them in paper cups in the window in winter for culinary use.

Where the hell do these flower grow????

Can I buy some???

They are fucking amazing!

I would say that most exotic, cool looking flowers grow only in the tropics. Take orchids for example, another pretty flower. They only grow in the tropics but the varieties of them is insane!

I also forgot some flowers on my list, hanging jades and Bird of Paradise, a favorite in Hawaii. They look like a tropical bird
