Pins Growing Before Fully Colonized
    #25277813 - 06/18/18 11:12 PM (5 years, 9 months ago)

Hi all,

I've grown shrooms several times through grow kits but decided to up my game and go through the PF-Tek method.

I've been meticulously following Ziran's 'Updated PF-Tek 2017' Guide (https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24179086) and all appeared to be going well! I inoculated my first set of jars on 24th May.

Colonization was arguably going a bit slower than I anticipated (but wasn't too sure having never been through this stage of the process before). One of the jars came down with a green fuzz so was a write off, but the other three seemed to be doing well. I attributed the slow growth to the slightly cooler temperature in my room.

Well today was significantly warmer than the weeks before it. I came home and found small pins in each of the three remaining jars.

I've done some quick research and the opinions seemed varied (probably contampinated . probably fine), so thoguh it would be worth posting my own photos.

The jars are all fully colonized on the bottom, but maybe have some uncolonized patches at the point furthest from where I inoculate, and maybe haven't colonized fully to the top. Pictures attached.

Any help or insight much appreciated! And if it is suspected contamination then any thoughts on why this may have happened?

Many thanks.

Looks more like the dry verm layer fell down some. I'd personally birth it. Wash off the uncolonized bits.
