 First time grower. Need help identifying if MAZATAPEC liquid culture is healthy or contaminated?

HI Guys, this place has been great for me as a lurker to get started with growing my own.
It's day 5 since i put in a bunch of spores into my water+honey mix and seeing some growth that sure does look like mycelium and of what ive read, is rhizomorphic which mazatapec mycelium is said to be.
Still ive read a lot about how cobweb mold or other molds can look similar. Also im hoping the black specks are just the spores. Need a second opinion on this. Here's a link to the video of me swirling the culture around - - - >

Spores to LC = probably contaminated. Test it out. Cant tell shit from looking at a LC usually.
Lots of spores to LC = even higher chance of contamination.
Absolutely no reason to use any more than a bare minimum amount of spores always for anything.

yea there were a lot of them when i started. and the amount of black specks hasn't grown.

Just so I am sure.
Best way to test is with a blank plate and a few drops.
Know within 24 hours if its ugly or not?

Yes u should use agar. In my experience, lc's will ALWAYS be contaminated if nocced up from spores. Try it tho and see what happens. U should get growth of its reasonably clean. But it's bound to have bacteria.

Roger that.
Am currently switching to agar. Have decent rate with ms>wbs.
Have been able to isolate a few cultures.
I think.
Wondering just how tall it should be though.

Yo solar u don't remember me bro?!?! Lol and when u say flat, u mean the actual height of the mycelium on the agar? Best way to get it flat is to just take a tiny tiny peice, and select it from a leading edge. Like if one spot is a little farther out than the rest, transfer that. When u see rhizos, transfer again. Should be flat then.

It looks like you have mycelium growth. You won't know until you inoculate. I have 3 month old MS inoculated liquid cultures that are extremely healthy and I've created like 50 quart jars with so far.
Like mentioned above get into agar I'm literally attempting agar work as we are speaking. So exciting

Agar is awesome and cheap as fuck. U can use any pp5 mini dish. And agar is like $3. Well the kind I get from the Asian store is. It's like 50g for $3. Find a good Asian grocery. Everything else they have at the regular grocery store. Check the baking section for extracts. And u know where karo and potato flakes are lol.

almost all of u have suggested agar. if this batch fails. i'll switch to agar then.

Spore syringes and spore prints are not axenic(look it up)
Using spores to make a LC is asking for troubles. The more spores the higher the chances of failure.

So, educate us. How do you get your spores to germinate?
Or, has it been a while?
Swiping a loop on a print works for crap.
Swipe a sterile swab on a print? Then wet agar?

Scrape a tiny bit of the print off with a scalpel or whatever u wanna use. Then either swipe the blade on the middle of the plate or scrape it over the agar and let spores drop onto it. More risks of contains that way, but ull see specs of spores. Then it germs in like 3 days
