U.S. Supreme Court and sports betting.
    #25269447 - 06/15/18 07:36 AM (5 years, 7 months ago)

"New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy holds two betting tickets, describing them as the first two legal sports bets in the history of this state at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey, Thursday, June 14, 2018. He placed $20 on Germany to win the World Cup soccer tournament, and $20 on the New Jersey Devils to win hockey's Stanley Cup next season. The wagers came a month after New Jersey won a U.S. Supreme Court case clearing the way for all 50 states to legalize sports betting if they choose."

Fuck yeah.  Some invest in the stock market and other shit.  I follow sports closely and it is a immediate return or loss.  But 60 percent plus percent right so I make my bets and the extra income is nice.

The Supreme Court actually did something right.  Nothing like the thrill of winning a large bet and then toasting and buying people drinks.  The elation.  There are downsides to.  Everything you invest money in is a gamble.

It is pretty cool IMO -

I bet online anyways so it doesnt affect me one way or another - but I like that the majority of people wont have to drive out of state to bet on a game or team they like, in the near future anyways. Also I think it will make sportsbook offerings more competitive, especially in the online arena. This equates to more money for the bettor, a good thing.

Couldn't agree more.  Use to take a laptop to a bar and bet on sports while watching a game.  They cracked down on it so I stopped doing it a long time ago.  Was amusing to see the manager come out all worried and giving me shit.  But this bar in Utah had a whole sportsbook like electronic board with lines and the matchups.

Fucking Utah.  The irony is amazing and the fakeness and hypocrisy.  But nothing like picking up my payday from a UPS from some island.  Just glad about this.  As hopefully this means Indian casinos can now have a sportbook as well.  I lose at every card game and roulette. The only thing I can make money on is sport betting.

If you know your sport it is possible to have the edge. I have years of statistical data on NFL bets showing it

Agreed  - card games are tough to beat unless you are counting cards, but even that comes with its own giant variance of winning and losing swings, essentially you need 10-50k to ensure your risk of ruin is close to zero. VP is the way to go if you want consistent advantage (with perfect play), so long as you dont mind 8 hour grind sessions, 5 days a week hehe.

I get most of what you are writing.  I just don't have the patience, nor do I want to spend that much time on it.  Like I wrote, in a similar vein, it's a benefit of enjoying and following sports closely.  Especially when one has a decent amount to bet.

It doesn't even get my interest if I don't bet at least to where I can make $250 to $300 a bet.  Not a major gambler but is nice come away with a good amount to me and my finances.  I just look at it as entertainment.  It's great to win but one has to learn not to take losses to seriously.  God when I cheered when the Celts made a game winning shot this guy wanted to punch me in the face though I was at Caesars in Vegas.  Desperate gamblers suck.

My brother was an idiot awhile a go.  He got to drunk and the game he would of won he slept through then bet a massive amount on a risky bet which was at least a grand.  And lost it on a walk off homer, but he always has had a penchant for choosing close games win or lose.  One on a Yankees game and Bosox game against the O's was over in the 5th when he needed a sac fly to get in the 8th to get his grand.  Why I never bet with him. Still, nothing was betting on the Yanks when they had the lead and Rivera coming up in the 9th.

NFL,  I have done well, but always till mid-season to learn the teams.  College football the same way.  It is great to scout a team out before betting on them and seeing them play at least somewhat.  NCAA basketball is easier then NBA as leads are never safe. Why I don't like the NBA.  And so many teams just lose to lose or rest players when they don't need to.  Don't get that in College as it's one or done.

Anyway, I do take it seriously.  But what rushes and also disappoints there can be.  But what a rush.  I tend towards things in life that bring such things.  And sports betting is one of those.

Agreed. I like betting on UFC fights. The UFC is super exciting anyways but when you got dough on a big underdog and he\she lands a clean shot for the finish? No better feeling :tongue2:

I also lose most card games online which is funny because when I go to the legal Casino I can almost always break even playing Poker. Something about playing Online makes Poker feel completely different. I've lost a fair bit recently.

Online poker is rigged. They give setup hands to increase the betting. Then certain players just always win regardless of the cards they are dealt.

I can get that.  It is so quick, boxing can go on forever.  I just don't follow it close enough but some are as quick as the roll of a roulette table.  There is quite a rush in that.

LMFAO.

One online poker site that was promoted on TV and the WSOP closed down overnight and kept everyones money. I talked to tech support at my old site about the setup hands and distribution mode and their official response was "if you feel you've spotted a pattern in the software, feel free to exploit it".

wow thats bad.

i never trusted online poker - always figured it would be easy to collude against others. never imagined they would build cheating into the software, but am not surprised.
