Bufo Alvarius Season 1
#25263269 - 06/12/18 09:35 AM (5 years, 7 months ago) |

Anyone here Catch, Milk & Release Bufo Alvarius (aka Sonoran Desert Toad, Colorado River Toad)? The monsoon season is almost here. I'm lookin forward to my first season milking and first DMT experience. If anyone has done this, any advice or overlooked details would be appreciated. I'm gonna list some of the points I learned below to avoid a wall of text.
There aren't many look-alikes, other toads are smaller, no yellow marks. Alvarius is up to 8", yellow marks, very pronounced venom glands on neck and limbs.
Can't bring my dog, the venom is strong enough to kill pets.
Spotlighting "stuns" these toads making them easy to gently collect.
Glands on the neck and limbs are milked by squeezing the venom out onto glass. It kinda shoots out, careful to keep out of eyes and mouth.
After venom dries, it's scraped and smoked as is. No prep required. Large dose is the size of a match head.

Dude get some root bark and extract some dmt.
No need to exploit and harm innocent toads.

Where do you get exploit & harm from? You don't kill them, just take some venom and release.

Wish I lived in the area. Sounds like so much fun with a cool reward. Only toads in my area just fill you with regret if you lick em.

If you google it you'll see plenty of Pics. ADCC put up a good link to. These are the toads that they warn you about with pets, big (8") and fat, yellow marks on body. You just squeeze the poison out of the glands onto glass, then release the toad. Everything I've found on it is pretty straight forward.

DO NOT LICK. These are poisonous and can cause problems, definately kills pets every year. You smoke the dry poison for the effect. Licking is an old rumor.
I think part of the fun is goin out to catch them with friends for sure, and they're only around for 2-3 months, so maybe i'll make it a fun summer tradition.

That's what I'm thinkin man, this is pretty gentle on the Toads. First rains are here, should see them any day.
Are these as far north as Colorado? I think they got the name from the river, which runs south into Mexico through Sonora. The typical range I've seen is parts of SoCal, AZ, South Nevada, West New Mexico, and most of Sonora Mexico.

Awesome man good luck. I can't remember average yield per toad, i think it was in the link ADCC shared. Couple doses worth I think
Florida could have them, I know they have Cane Toads which are more tropical, very poisonous and no dmt. Lots of invasive species seem to do well there. Alvarius is a desert animal though, underground for 9-10 months of the year. Wonder if it behaves different in florida.

I seen a warning sign for pets was in Florida about Bufo so makes me think still active. Ya underground lots of sand there maybe still possible. Maybe the venom would be different too, diet difference and wetter climate I don't think alkaloids production would be the same. All my life I've mistaken the Bufo for a different spade foot toad. Lol missed on some space trips damn. Lol

I'm tryin to look it up but I can only find Info on Cane Toads(Bufo Marina) in Florida. Share where you see this cause if they are in Florida I know some people that will want to know. Remember Bufo is the Genus for all Toads, Alvarius is the species for Sonoran Desert Toad.

Please just leave the toads alone. The desert ecosystems are fractured and cut up as much as humanly possible, isolating specific populations of toads, tortoises, cougar, etc in very small and cut off wilderness areas. Wild Lands project is actually buying up BLM desert in California at least and posting it all as private land for wildlife corridors between designated wilderness, which is a good thing except they cut me off from the Orocopia mts and the botryoidal fluorite deposit there. The toads need the toxins in their glands to keep from being eaten by predators such as raccoons, snakes, cats etc. If you take their venom from them, you might be condemning them to a defenseless death. Not something you want to think about while tripping on their venom unless you're a sociopath and don't care about anything but yourself. I would have a better trip taking mushrooms and visiting the toad's habitat. The last thing we need are thousands of hipsters hunting toads like what happened to the once plentiful peyote cactus, not that the Texan farmers are innocent or anything.

It's also considered harassment of wildlife punishable by law.
State laws[edit] The toads received national attention after a story was published in the New York Times Magazine in 1994 about a California teacher who became the first person to be arrested for possessing the venom of the toads.[12][13] The substance concerned, bufotenin, had been outlawed in California in 1970.[14]
Toad at night in Tucson In November 2007, a man in Kansas City, Missouri was discovered with an I. alvarius toad in his possession, and charged with possession of a controlled substance after they determined he intended to use its secretions for recreational purposes.[15][16] In Arizona, one may legally bag up to 10 toads with a fishing license, but it could constitute a criminal violation if it can be shown that one is in possession of this toad with the intent to smoke its venom.[17] None of the states in which I. alvarius is (or was) indigenous – California, Arizona, and New Mexico – legally allows a person to remove the toad from the state. For example, the Arizona Game and Fish Department is clear about the law in Arizona: "An individual shall not... export any live wildlife from the state; 3. Transport, possess, offer for sale, sell, sell as live bait, trade, give away, purchase, rent, lease, display, exhibit, propagate... within the state..."[17] In California, I. alvarius has been designated as "endangered" and possession of this toad is illegal. "It is unlawful to capture, collect, intentionally kill or injure, possess, purchase, propagate, sell, transport, import or export any native reptile or amphibian, or part thereof..."[18] In New Mexico, this toad is listed as "threatened" and, again, taking I. alvarius is unlawful.[19][20]

Finally started to rain. I can't wait to get out there this week!
Dude, I'm not destroying their habitat. I have no issues with hunting & eating the local wild life, I sure as hell have no issue with taking some venom and releasing.
Quote:
If you take their venom from them, you might be condemning them to a defenseless death.
And this doesn't make sense. Any local animal that might try to eat the toad will most likely kill it before the poison takes any effect. Having half their sacs drained isn't condemning it to anything.

LOL wildlife law? Sounds like a drug law since it all surrounds intent to milk, and I doubt either one of us follow those.
Please, go think you're superior somewhere else.
Ok, now that I've searched. It's legal to own one of these toads as a pet everywhere except NM. Animal protection law my ass.

You clearly didn't read the post stating the laws involving this toad on top of this page. You post your illegal desires on a public website. I am a veteran of this community and you are a little kid. I will always be superior to you and so will my kids. You will always be a loser with no connection to the animals you abuse and think you're doing a sacred act. Did you not watch the video and see the part where an American dressed Mexican shaman admits to doing 400 ceremonies so far that year and they end the scene with a dead toad. Next scene shows Hamilton driving through the desert hunting toads. they stop and pick up 4 on the side of the road but then see a fresh dead one behind their vehicle. You can see their fresh tire track going right over the toad and they never even acknowledge that they killed the toad. This is the kind of ignorance and naivety that you humans are spewing into this reality... and fuck that!

I do know flaming, harassing, and trolling are pretty looked down on. All you've done is berate and insult.
The whole reason I put this up is to make sure I'm doing this right. I don't want to accidentally hurt them. I don't share your view that catch and release is wrong.

Maybe so...It's easy to be harsh to someone online. I caught some asshole with a baby blue shark once and got pretty pissed. He drove off fast as he could. Desert wildlife is extremely fragile and the last thing we need is a wave of hipster kids going to all the creeks and springs in the deserts at night time. You're not even allowed to be at these spots at night because it scares the wildlife away and they get dehydrated. It's a real issue and you will get fined for it. It's considered harassment of wildlife. I'll bet you didn't know that if you frighten a desert tortoise and it pisses itself, chances are that it will die of dehydration. Also, a lot of old springs in the Colorado and sonoran desert are now completely dry due to agriculture and the mismanagement of the deserts/forest. This only strains the animal population more to have to travel further than they should have to, just to find some douche bagging toads in your waterhole. The next day is 115 degrees and your babies die of dehydration. Fuck people and their self entitlements.
