What is the best Agar recipe

I was thinking about using this Agar recipe. AGAR recipe: 10 grams of Malt Extract, 2 teaspoons of powder potatoes, 9 grams of Agar Agar, and 1 teaspoon of honey or 1 gram of yeast, 500ml of water. 1 Gram of activated charcoal. Do you think that is a good recipe? Also, is it ok I use a PC that only holds (4) 4oz quarter pint jars and then stack 4 more agar jars on top of them and then PC or should I only PC the 4 bottom jars at one time? Thank You in advance

i've tinkered around with different recipes and have decided that 3% malt extract and 2% agar agar to 95% water is my favorite.
what a tiny pressure cooker you have. i'd try stacking them but make sure the top jars aren't over 50% full. agar likes to violently boil and you top jars might boil over due to them cooling faster because the lack of thermal mass

wow, that thing is tiny. you'll probably want to get a presto 23 quart at some point but that thing will work for small batches. i haven't done enough tests yet to absolutely confirm but the rumor is that if the water level isn't up to the agar level you'll experience boil over due to the agar cooling faster than it's surrounding environment. obviously, your bottom layer could be in enough water but your top layer would be completely out of the water. i'd try it but be sure that your top layer of jars isn't too full (50% or so).
actually, what are you trying to accomplish? are you planning to pour from jars or use them as no pour/pasty plates? if no pour is the route you are going then you'll be fine stacking them because the jars will only have a quarter to half inch of agar in them. i've stacked little mason jars with a tiny bit of agar in them four layers high in my all american and sterilized them all just fine.

Most peoples goal with agar is actually to limit the amount of nutrients in it to encourage mycelium to expand outward in search of them. It seems your line of thinking is that you're wanting to make it as nutritious as possible. It's not necessary since agar dishes aren't meant for fruiting. If you want to experiment with ingredients, your best bet would be to alternate them. Meaning you germinate the spores on a pda dish, then transfer them to an mea dish, etc etc. You can stick with established recipes that way.

Hello erum subsequentis , I took a look at that 23 quart PC that you suggested and its exactly what I need, But I just ordered a new 6 quart PC from amazon, I should return it. This is what I need for Agar and WBS and BRF. I cant do that with a small PC like you mentioned. Thank You. >>>> http://www.healthycanning.com/wp-content/uploads/double-decking.jpg

Yeah, all those small PCs are crap if you're willing to pursue that hobby. I used to work with a 9l PC for a long time and it's just painful to use. Always figuring out how to stuff everything in.
