Would You?
    #2526043 - 04/05/04 12:15 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

this life is very strange. We sometimes forget that because, living it day after day we come to think of it as normal, just the way it is. But really its totally bizarre and none of us truly understands how we came to be here or why the world is the way it is. i mean, all we know about our world comes from our senses. 5 senses work together, a brain synthesizes it and you have... reality.

And then theres dreams, all the senses function, you touch taste see feel and live in a whole different world than the waking one. Just like in this one an inifinite array of sensory experiences await us in the dream world, with characters, inhabitants and landscapes. Thesse characters and landscapes may be very bizarre, and the physical laws of our waking life dont apply.
If one realizes on is dreaming, he can then take the reins of reality and manipulate them as he sees fit, flying, creating women to make love with, visiting amazing worlds... this is called lucid dreaming.

Now heres my question: if you had the choice, would you dream forever? no more waking life, no more sleeping, just non stop REM sleep. Dreaming endlessly. Your physical body is pplugged in to a life support system that monitors your life signs and feeds you intravenously. You are kept in a sterilized bombshelter and your metabolic processes are slowed by sleep. In this state you could live 150 years or more. But you would never wake up, just dreaming endlessly through bizarre worlds and living a dream life.

Would you do it?
i would. i think eventually you would achieve permanent lucidity and would essentially be a god of your own mind/woRld. Plus i get tired of the mundanity and routine of my regular life, as well as its responsibilites.

so what would y'all do?

I dont know if i would or not. I love being asleep.. i fit in a lot better there... (heh, imagine that  )

Besides that i dont know, i wish i could integrate my dream world into reality. Thats why i choose to put up with this bullshit everyday. Sleep is so wonderful, but alas i must get up and do something. Although i would be worried that i wouldnt be able to shake a bad dream... and spend the rest of my life in a nightmare... that would suck

Have you ever seen the movie vanilla sky? If you havent, i would reccomend checking it out. All about this

people blind from birth dream in colors, but not forms. they dont know the forms.

your only dreaming the experience of experiencing making love, or laughing,
or love, or saddness.

can you dream that which you have not experienced?

sometimes, i get intense dreams, especially about falling in love. when i wake up, i want to cry. im basically saying that, for me, sometimes feelings in dreams can feel more passionate and real than my waking consciousness.

BUT,

i believe that i would still pick waking consciousness...it is where i should be in the evolution of this self. if i was meant to be in another consciousness, i would be there.

im evolving to wherever im going,(or not going), at the rate im supposed to. cool. no worries.

how do we know that we are not dreaming this reality already? i don't think that our bodies would last that long because all our muscles would deteriate. our bodies are already meant to live to 450 years old but we but so much stress on them that they don't last that long.

I wouldn't. It's too safe. I like a little bit of fear with my life. It spices things up. Like Marilyn Manson said, "without the fear of death, there's no reason to live at all". Have you ever seen that twilight zone episode where the guy dies and ends up in a casino where all the chicks want him and he allways wiins? It turned out he was in hell. Same principle. One of my favorite parts of life is figuring out what I don't know, and of course the mystery of existence. If I controlled everything I would get real bored real quick.

It would be like spending all your life with your self, stuck in a more controlable illusion to escape a much tougher on.

As for the matrix thing I am saveing up for one now, should have the money by the time one comes out,. I seriously beleive it can be done but would you trust the govermant or microsof t with your brain ?

It definitely sounds like a good idea..... but I do think that there is a reason we are in this physical reality. In that illusory realm everything might be perfect for you.... but there is no outside interaction, there is no true growth.... I see it as possible that we already exist in a state such as that, but that we consciously choose to enter this physical reality for important reasons.

I mean, as long as you remembered that you had made the decision to connect to something so that you could dream together, I think it would eventually come to haunt you... I would definitely be missing reality, especially knowing that it was just an illusion, no matter how realistic of one.
I like the fact that we are sitting in an unknown on a conscious quest to make it known.... It is fun and enriching.
Peace. :mushroom2:

Damn, Jacques...you ruined it for those who haven't seen it (one of my favorite flicks).
Anyway, would I?  Would I want my own reality?  Would I want to be God of everything my mind can conjure?  Damn straight

Sigh...a boy can dream  :smirk:

I would not choose any state to be permanent, based on the knowledge I have right now.

I am confronting fear, physical disease, mental disease, and inner and outer conflict every single day, yet I still am greatful to experience this realm.

I do believe we eventually evolve beyond physical form, without need for regeneration of our soul/soul's seat. This is what the christians call Heaven, and the New agers call ascension, and the Buddha called enlightenment (end of rebirth).

Well it would be good to enter the matrix as a holiday maybe spend a couple of weeks there. Upload some new skills maybe alter parts of your own programming like view aknoledge problems and then delete them like a file.
