gaps in pf jars
    #2525877 - 04/04/04 09:08 PM (19 years, 11 months ago)

hey, my friend just got done preparing some pf jars for steam sterilization but when he was done he noticed when he looked at the side of the jars he saw little gaps where there was no substrate, will this be ok?? would shaking or tapping the side of the jars to fill in the gaps screw anything up?? and also, he only made like 1/4 inch layer of vermiculite because he was running out, will this still protect the substrate from contams?

that should be fine, the hyphae should fill in nicely around that blank spot. and the quarter inch of vermiculite is better than having nothing in there. Just handle the jars as little as possible to minimize the amount of jostling that layer has.

yes its fine man,if you mess around and try to shake it down so as to fill in the gaps you will just compact the substrate and colonization will take longer, its fine, the mycelluim will just move around the gap and eventually fill it in.
