Why is this thread 30 days old?  Who doesn’t want to talk about garlic?

I tried doing different varieties but mixed them up and found it a pain.  All I’ve grown in the last couple years was music.  It is a good keeper, likes our cold winters but it still strong flavour.  Might try a new one this year  Do you grow?  Have a recommendation?

Good luck Blank.  Garlic doesn’t like water much but as long as you have good drainage it should be fine.

Not whole cloves but chopped up in dressings and such I will. You eat it raw?  😂 you seem very passionate about garlic!

Nice!  I’ve never grew elephant or softneck.  I would like to try sometime.  Grow the hard neck for storage and strength. As I understand they are usually the stronger of the varieties.

I’m always excited to see them pop up in early spring!

I’ve eaten elephant garlic, it is mild and delicious!

One thing I’ve learned about storing, there is a reason why people braid garlic!  I don’t know the science of why, but my garlic lasts so much longer

My theory is that the humidity in my house is very dry over the winter.  I think maybe the braids almost feed the bulbs.
Maybe?  Maybe not.  But it works for me 😃

Does your soil drain well?  They don’t like sitting water.

i Know your not asking me, but i definitely live in a place where it freezes hard.  i tried garlic in a raised bed and it didn't do well but when i put in the ground it grows amazingly well, close to 100%.  My thoughts on this is that they maybe don't like the freeze/thaw/freeze thing.  In the beds, the garlic would do okay in the middle but not close to the edges.  In the ground here, usually when it freezes, it's solid for the rest of the winter.

what zone are you guys in?  I am zone 3b

it surprised me to how well they do here.  Saskatchewan is between 4b and 3b mostly in it's farm area and they grow a lot of garlic.
I have a hard time with some things though, have to work hard to grow tomatoes.  keep trying brussel sprouts every year and they come so close but never actually matured enough to call ok.

You're pretty warm down there i bet!  we had our coldest day so far this winter -40 when i woke up this morning.  inside work day lol

Lol it would work for me!

4 pounds of garlic butter 🤤 I’ll cut it into cubes and freeze to have ready.

Anyone ever just freeze minced garlic for quick use?

Oh yeah, love pesto, I freeze it in cubes too.

I froze a small batch of minced so see how it goes.

You really are passionate about your garlic.... or mushrooms.

So how do you have blue butter?  I thought psylocibin is not soluble in fat.

That is really interesting falcon.  I just assumed the bulbils were the seeds.  I think I want to try that just to see, I’m sure it’s not so easy but nothing to lose.

I forgot to post my garlic bed lol it’s behind the snowbank under about 3’ of snow.

I actually think it’s going to be a great year as long as we don’t get too much spring rains.  So much snow on the ground, the frost really hasn’t went very deep.

No doubt!  I’ve seen them come up a few inches then we’ll get a late spring snow storm where they’ll get covered and they do fine.  The greenery coming up does great, no damage.
