Looks like the start to some chicken mushroom, Laetiporus sulphureus. What's throwing me off is that it's coming from the ground. Chicken mushs grows from wood. Maybe a tree used to be there? If it's chicken, you'll know for sure in a day or two when it matures and fans out.

There's actually not much there and would be better if it matures more, to the point of fanning out a lil. The base is more dense and can be woody sometimes. They can usually be found off the ground and on dead fallen trees. Who knows what happened to it just lying around like that. Personally, I'd wait until you found a better specimen. Since a TI confirmed tho, you could try a lil now if you wanted just to see if your allergic or not. It is a tasty mushroom.

thanks for the answer. yes, i know @size. but it is literally next to a bus stop, so I am kinda afraid that someone picks it before me or just removes it. there is some wood/dirt in the stem, it's pretty little to eat. tastes kinda ok maybe similar to chicken. i think it has less flavor than chicken, but i can imagine that you can prepare it to make it tasty.

Yeah, next to a bus stop is sort of an iffy location to gather from. I can relate to your excitement over finding edible mushrooms tho. If your gonna eat regardless, then please trim the dirt away and cook before trying more. Always cook wild mushrooms, you never know what's been on it and it also makes the nutrients more available. Keep your eyes open while in that area and hopefully you can find a better specimen to enjoy.

lol cool stuff. Hopefully you can find a good cluster off the ground next time. Keep an eye on dead trees right around there, specifically oaks. They do good in a pan with a lil butter and a hint of salt n pepper

have you found Laetiporus cincinnatus? the white pored version that grows terrestrially from buried, dead roots? it grows from oak roots in the woods at my house. most delicious.

this, and more this.
when i have an abundance, i use them in winter homemade soups as well as frying them then adding them to a white sauce and serving over pasta
having said that, i often get my fill right out of the frying pan while cooking

Yeah, should've mentioned that L. cincinnatus does grow from the ground/base of oaks. I was only referring to the species in the op. It's very rare to see the yellow pored sp fruiting from the ground, which is what was throwing me off. Both species are the same in flavor and very tasty tho.

I see acorns on the ground around the mushroom so OP's must be near to an Oak tree. Their roots stretch really far.
Also , sometimes tree stumps that have the top rotted away get buried and just look like grass. There can still a whole lotta wood and roots under the ground. I know a spot where big Reshi grow like that, looks like they're popping right out of the grass
Sometimes tree stumps rot
