I have a ton of pins, but everything stalled.
    #25252791 - 06/06/18 06:54 PM (5 years, 10 months ago)

I bought a grow bag from a vendor. It was rye on the bottom, a small layer of straw, and then poo. When it was fully colonized I took it out of the bag and decided to try and fruit it with the jars I had going in an unmodified tub. At first it looked great. I litterly have 100-200 pins. They are now about an inch tall and are aborting. They haven't grown in four days, and the Caps are getting darker. Is there anything I can do to save it, or should I just clear it off, dunk it and case it?

Let's see if I did this right. By the way I have pf cakes doing great in this same tub. I'm just not sure what happens.

None of them are growing? The picture is not great but most of those don't look like aborts to me. I would just spray it down really good to rehydrate it and see if start growing faster. If they've aborted the caps will eventually turn black.

They are slowly starting to turn back. They were all a lighter color to start with. Along the bottom of the cake are fresh pins and they are a much lighter color. I have cakes that started pinning three days after this one that I harvested yesterday. This is day five with no growth on this.

You may want to consider bottom watering?

They look like aborts to me... several pointy caps and the caps are all dark like the pointy ones...

Like others have said, seems very dry.

I'm assuming you dunked and rolled the cake since there is verm on it? Did you follow regular spraying/misting schedule? Your perlite is nice and moist?

Is that an SGFC your cake is in?

What is that weird thing on the top of your cake? It looks like a stick or something -nm, just reread your first post and saw this was a growbag with straw

Did you dunk the bag after removing it or anything? I'm assuming your sub dried out and the pins stalled due to drying out

I think that is exactly the problem. I'm bottom watering now. I will give it a try, but back to my original question. Since these are aborting is it just worse to clear it, or should I try to let them grow. At this point i feel like it is smarter to just clear them off, and put it in a shoebox and case it? I was trying to ask if that's what I should do, maybe even dunk it first

If you were to clear what is currently on the cake then I would do a dunk for 6-12hrs and then put in FC again. If you were talking about grating to a shoebow... I would wait for someone else to chime in as I have never done a shoebow nor have I grated cakes to bulk.

If you're sure they are aborted then go ahead and clean them all off. If you think some of them are still going to grow, then up to you... keep in mind that since they are clustered, you're probably going to pull off any actively growing fruits, so just make sure its all aborts

I would not shoebox that since its already producing fruits.. just clean it if appropriate and rehydrate, shoot for a solid flush

Okay so I'm going to wait and see if the bottom watering helps. I misted this at least three four times a day, and kept the top with beads of water until it pinned then I let it go. Should I have continued to mist once I had pins?

I misted it really good now and all the shrooms bruised heavily.

If you have introduce bottom waering you won't need to mist as much. To much misting can water log the fruit. The whole point of bottom watering is to supply the cakes with enough water so you won't have to worry so much. Just be sure to empty any excess water from tray after 24hrs to ensure the water doesn't get stagnant.

Misting and rehydrating are two different things kinda... generally misting is more for maintaining proper surface moisture and adding some fine droplets if its dried up on the surface

Rehydrating via watering is for supplying water in the sub...

You don't usually mist after fruits are growing because the fruits already produce moisture and the whole point in misting was to aid in pin production via surface conditions.

If your sub is dried out though, it won't be able to sustain the fruits to full growth.

Your sub probably didn't have a ton of moisture to start with, and it dried out more when you took it out of the bag and set in the chamber. You would have wanted to dunk or bottom watter at this point

This confirms what I thought. Thank you. I've never misted once I had pins. I just bought this bag to try it and see if the straw/poo combo would work better. Clearly it does. I've never had a pin set like that before, they just didn't hydrate it enough.

By the way, thank you guys. I did pull the pins that were aborts, and the rest of it is already doing a lot better. I see new growth, and even new pins.
