Vegetative growth is growth of dikaryotic mycelium colonizing a substrate. In vegetative growth, nuclei will multiply by mitosis and is not producing sexual structures and going through meiosis.

I would assume that generative growth would be the production of sexual structures and the production of mushrooms and spores. Karyogamy occurs followed by meiosis and the generation of progeny.

Vegetative growth= multiplication of a single 'strain'

Generative= production and multiplication of progeny, i.e. new haploid genotypes, sexual due to meiosis
