Tap water definitely works. Personally I prefer fully saturated worm casting and coir in a clear box with the lid on because I can not check it for weeks and have rooted clones once I open the box. I usually try to open the boxes once a week and remove and cuttings that are not looking good.

I prefer coir as well. I dont use castings but a similar method nonetheless. Works great.

The thing with tap water is that it isn´t the same everywhere.
I have very good tapwater, almost 7 in PH but some have very bad tapwater where the PH can be quite high.
If you have good tapwater it should work good to use for rooting.
New roots form these small white bulbs in the first stages so that seem good.
Good luck.

Seven is great Mateo. ours is either nine or right under. Except for my dormant stumps (which get tap), all my krats get RO enhanced w CalMag and a tiny bump of potassium at a slightly acidic ph.

One of my Kratom cuttings suddenly lost three of its lower leaves in one day. Not sure what could have caused this. They were moved from the mini greenhouse in a window sill to my grow tent. They have been growing in there for about two weeks now and didn't seem to mind the relocation. The plant looks healthy and pest free otherwise. It has been rather hot around here the last week or so, with temperatures of around 30°C (86F). I imagine the CFL grow light would have caused the temperature to rise even more. Also, a couple of days ago I noticed their soil mixture got a bit on the dry side. Not completely dry though and I watered them as soon as I noticed (tap water acidified to around pH 6). For the rest, I can't come up with an explanation for the sudden leaf drop. Maybe this is just a normal occurrence?

By the way, I always chew on fallen leaves of my various ethnobotanical plants. These Kratom leaves are one of the least pleasant tasting ones in my opinion though. Tastes just like the powder, but I would usually try to get that down as fast as possible.

My bumble bee tastes bad too. Dont like it. I bought a capsule maker to be able to take powder. Way easier.

I planted some Green Malay seeds and Thai Red Vein 6 days ago and I see 3 sprouts on the Thai Red Vein and 1 sprout on the Green Malay tray. Here's the picture I was able to get of the Red Vein sprouts.

Does the gibberelic acid work for the Daun Jambu so far? I have no germination yet but I sowed them pretty reservedly, not in any massive way but I am inclined to sow just about everything I have to see if I can get one or two.

IIRC the red malay was very difficult too and took a long time but somehow I do have some plants of those. Oh it was the Rifat which never produced any seedling whatsoever for me.

They were taken care of ok when i was on vacation but there was some drying out (rotty looking actually) of one potted seedling but the rest looks fine. A lot of red coloration going on which seems to disregard whether it is green or red veined varieties. I have to wonder how much of this variety stuff is more or less nonsense in terms of expecting much difference a la Psilocybe Cubensis: sure you can see a lot of variation but that doesn't mean it is all that consistent, it can just be particular genetics combined with particular conditions but the genetics are taking absolutely all of the credit. IDK i haven't seen many generations like natives

My humid tent is being pretty difficult, having some setbacks but my setup will get there..

If anyone is putting some seedlings on hydroponics, I would love some pics on the process.

My oldest Red Indo seedling is finally pushing out a bit of new growth.

The same plant October last year, by far my reddest kratom. I have 5 or 6 other much smaller seedlings from the same seeds that survived winter, we'll see how they turn out.

MG, What do you mean when you say they survived the winter?
You don´t have them outside winter time, or?
I can´t imagine they would survive an European winter unless in a heated greenhouse or indoors.
In my basement there is no problems surviving wintertime, basking in the artificial sun at 25 degrees C

Regarding the Daun Jambu, my seeds have still not germinated.
Don´t think they will.
And i have been too busy with other things so i haven´t tried the GA on my remaining very few seeds yet.
But there is some holidays very soon and it´s on the to-do list together with some other growing stuff.

Some bad news also, i spotted some web on some of the Riafat seedlings.
It´s the damned spidermites, i really hate them.
I directly mixed some Pyrethin spray and gave them a through shower.
I hope it helps, i did catch them early this time.
I will repeat the spraying a few times.

No I definitely brought them inside but like many tropicals they don't like the sudden change of environment, the very dry air due to heating, the lack of sunlight etc...

Out of the 25-30 kratom seedlings I had (most of them well established 20-30cm+) only 5 didn't drop all their leaves and I only have maybe 10 still alive. A few died of root rot, the rest just never came back to life.

My 2 meter tall Argyreia died too, but it's probably because I kept it too dry. And my big bushy Mimosa hostilis died back from about 1.2m down to maybe 20cm up the main trunk. Some other smaller Mimosa hostilis seedlings died completely.

The conditions were pretty good too, inside a heated veranda with plenty of ambient light and never went below 12-15°C.
Some pics from this winter to give you an idea:

I had a HBWR come back from what seemed like total death on three occasions.
Mine was bigger than yours but you may want to try keeping it around for a little while to see if it puts out a shoot from the roots.

I recently had some Riafat seedlings put out in the greenhouse as i thought they grew better there but thay stopped growing.
I dont really know why, its warm and humid in the greenhouse but night temps awere about 8-12 degrees C.
So i put them back inside under artificial light.
They are still alive but certainly not in as good shape as they were before.
Growing has started to combe back, at least i think so.

If they are so sensitive for environment changes thats probably why they stopped growing when i took them into the greenhouse.
Maybe i should have keept them there for longer period and maybe they had adjusted.
But i wanted the fast growth back so they were moved back inside.
Well, at least i got some experience out of it.

My cutting blew out of the water jar and it sat out for a little... long enough to get wilted. Since then, the progress has slowed and I'm not sure if it will put roots out, but i'm waiting still.

Also, did any of you hear that there is a threat to our plant, Kratom? If I understand it right, there is a proposed bill that if signed would make Kratom illegal at the Federal level. The bill is trying to stop the importation and trafficking of synthetic analogs. The FDA is really pushing on this one. Apparently, Kratom is mentioned in the bill. There is an amendment though, that would keep Kratom out of it. (Pocan Amendment) That's the Amendment we are hoping that they vote YES on. So, basically you want your State Rep to vote YES on the Pocan Amendment.

Strange, Kratom use can be a way out of heroin addiction.
They should promote the use of it to get off heroin instead of banning it.

Funny fact:
The reason kratom was banned in Thailand a long time ago was it was a threat to the opium and heroin trade and use.

But i have heard they considering make it legal again because of the fact it can help people to get off heroin.
I hope it will get leagal in Thailand again, its a good plant.
