I was looking at www.drinkabsinthe.com from a banner on this site. Has anybody ever tried this stuff? Are these kits legit? Just curious if anybody has ever messed with these things and if its worth it.

They are legit... but if you don't distill your brew, it won't taste very good.

I really don't understand the point of absinthe. From what I hear its barely different at all from just being drunk. And considering the price that absinthe sells for, I'd rather pick up a case of beer

Maxim Magazine did an article on the stuff and made it sound like the greatest stuff. I figured if it was good stuff it wouldn't hurt to throw down $10 for a couple of those packets but if it ain't worth it I'm not gonna worry about it.

Absinthe has many different flavors... kinda' like beer... they are all absinthe but everybody has a different micro-brew. Some taste like herbs and some taste like candy licorice.
I prefer the herbal tasting brews... there are many different liccorice flavored drinks out there.
Good absinthe is good... but you may have to try some swill before you find something that tastes good.
These $10 kits work but from what I hear, they need to be distilled before they taste very good. You can't beat the price though.

When using the home-made kits it's best to use everclear. Using anything that contains some amount of water will extract more bitters than plain alcohol alone.
Best results and less bitter and actually quite enjoyable absinthe, use everclear and not vodka. The kits are well worth it if you use everclear.

Try it with vodka and you'll see the difference. Everclear out performs the vodka. Are you adding the appropriate amounts of water and sugar when you consume?

I made some with the kit using everclear and it was horrible. I did a couple of shots with the water and sugar but it'll take more than that to calm that shit down. I can drink anything but i'd rather snort tequila than drink that stuff.

what about adding some sour mix from a liquor store, like whiskey sour..... i could care less about the sanctity of the old ways crap and preserving the original absinthe taste.....will the sour mix/abisnthe keep when stored for a few weeks..... but bottom line this $10 stuff from drinkabsinthe.com, is it worth it or what? and how would you go about distilling it?
