Some members of the right wing in congress are going apeshit crazy over Senator John Fetterman's (I guess I'll call it) norm violations. It was brought up earlier but now in the daily news cycle since he commented about Rep. Lauren Bobert. Fetterman made a funny although not a Senate like comment choice of phrases about Bobert's outrageous behavior in a theater, sexual and otherwise. She denied everything but after video evidence flooded the media she apologized for eccentric behavior. She and the guy she was with engaged in lots of sexual fondling involving her breasts and his dick. She was also out of line when security ejected her.
Fetterman tweeted, "I guess if I take up vaping and grabbing the hog during a live musical, they'll make me a folk hero." The right is so hard up (no pun intended) to find an issue that Fetterman's choice of words is deemed more offensive than Boebert's behavior. You can't bitch about immigration every single day, and these guys need a sound bite. I understand that being a Senator is a more elite position than House representative, but this is stupid even by current political standards.
So now the Fetterman publicity provided a new opportunity for conservative senators to attack Fetterman's dress code violations. Sometimes he wears a suit and sometimes he dresses like an oversized Bill Belichick. Male members of either branch of congress usually wear a suit, but when they just got back from the airport they also show up in casual wear. Fetterman has sometimes just popped his head through the door to vote, to avoid offending sensibilities.
This is the part where it gets somehow weirder. There is no dress code for the Senate, but the Seargent at Arms may enforce the informal dress code. Current discussions about codifying this one way or another, have even some Democrats on either side. Earlier there was outrage when female Senators started showing bare arms or wearing pantsuits. IMO, this is good evidence for why Congress's approval ratings are much lower than Biden's or Trump's.
Finally, there is the question of what Lauren Bobert was vaping. There's no question she was intoxicated, and alcohol plus weed can hit hard (probably more so among stupid people). She is very publicly an extreme gun enthusiast/gun nut. If she was vaping THC she violated a gun law they are trying to get Hunter Biden on. It's a federal law that applies in every state.

Equally likely they let Hunter Biden off on that charge, rather than use it against one of the right's two nitwit queens. We would think Boebert can't get reelected after that bizarre public display, but the way things are going, she may have just increased her appeal to "conservative" voters.

That's just strange to me. I grew up in Christian conservative land. Nothing riled these people up like observing what they considered to be sexual impropriety. They lost their minds when Clinton got a bj. I would think that this would cause her base to reject her. That would be a nice display of consistency anyways.

Leads you to wonder: were they so concerned with the blowie, or the guy getting blown.
And how consistent are those values?

Conservatives will use fundamentalists any way they can. The most obvious is to appeal to them morally. Reagan (who didn't go to church) sold that so well, he was first to mobilize them as a consistent voting bloc, and with their help and others, created the modern conservative movement which hadn't put one of their own in the White House since some time before FDR.
MAGA is a different type of conservative Republican. They make an attempt to appeal to Christian morality, faking it like Reagan. But they are such a brazen group that their immoral actions tend to become public knowledge. That will lose some Christian voters, while others don't care and still vote for them. Trump has successfully exploited a brand of populism that puts morality on the back burner. There is an overlap between the groups labeled fundamentalist and white nationalist. With white Nationalism it doesn't matter if the leader is immoral, because if you're white you're right.
Loren Boebert tried the moral appeal approach, telling unhappy wives they should chase Jesus to save their marriages. Then she got divorced, and now is a public embarrassment at least if not a disgrace. So she lost some votes, but still has her strong pro-gun and election denier stands. With name recognition, MAGA loyalty, and a white district, she could win again, but you would think they could find somebody less stupid.

I lived in her district for a bit. It's definitely white nationalist territory but there is a significant well to do, granola eating, outdoorsy democrat element. She won reelection on the very thinnest of margins last time. She really cant afford to lose even a handful of votes
