Ok, he was assaulted for "fighting words" and not for his political views. Got it. Either way there's an awful lot of assumptions going on in your post. This a random guy attending a concert and you're talking about him as you know him. You have no idea that hes "privileged" or that " hes a person who does not face any significant oppression in their daily life" tell me how you could possibly know that? The word "privileged" doesn't come to mind when you read "trump supporting farmer". I thought you only supported violence against nazis and fascists? I didn't know that also carried over to anyone on the right. Have a good one

He was assaulted for both his political views and the way he aired them.

He could have gone to the punk show and left his politics aside and just ignored the anti-Trump rant just as he obviously ignores the lyrical content of Social Disortion, and he would have been left alone.

Instead, he decided to insult the frontman by holding his middle finger in the air. Now, admittedly, Mike Ness is off the drugs and doing much better these days, but here are a few stories from his past:

  • Police arrive to break up the first-ever gig by Social Distortion at a house party in Yorba Linda. A 17-year-old Mike Ness spits in a plainclothesman's face and is carted off to jail.

  • Ness, now almost 18, goes into a rage (nothing unusual) at his Fullerton apartment, which other local punks have nicknamed the Black Hole. He starts slamming a knife into his living room wall. The knife gets stuck, Ness's hand slips and he filets his left index finger.

  • It is the early '80s, and Ness is brawling (nothing unusual) outside the Cuckoo's Nest, the Costa Mesa club that is the hub of the Orange County punk-rock scene. His antagonist wrestles Ness to the ground and bites off a chunk of his left ear.

  • Ness punches out a bouncer before a Social Distortion club gig in San Diego. The triumph is short-lived: After the show, a posse of bouncers grabs Ness, beats him up and calls the police to bring assault charges. Ness lands in jail for several days--a particularly uncomfortable place to be for a heroin addict.

He built a reputation for himself as the hardest of the hard cases, the punk rocker who was every inch a wiry, pugnacious, tattoo-covered, needle-punctured punk. And then this bumbling farmer rolls up, insults him and his politics, and is surprised at the result?

It doesn't matter if I support this or not (I never said I condone the assault), the point is that punk rock has a history of being confrontational and belligerent. Mike Ness stands as a shining example of this. Regardless of your politics, insulting some of punk rocks famous frontmen would lead to a brawl. Tim the farmer either is unaware of this aspect of punk rock, or he didn't think it would happen to him.

This is why I talk of privilege. I wouldn't walk into a redneck bar, insult the flag, and then be surprised that they couldn't leave the politics at home. But, I've also been targeted for my politics. Someone who has never experienced real violent pushback for just living their politics (like a sheltered conservative white male) might not understand that politics isn't just this passive conversation - it is real and lived. It is a privilege to be able to consider politics as an academic discussion, because  those facing political oppression do not have that luxury.

Yes, these are assumptions - but I would consider them an educated guess based off of buddies reaction to his two black eyes.

And you support violence against people because they crossed an imaginary line and make no apologies for that outlook.

No I don't.

No, I stated it's a good thing for blacks to be living in the US and enjoying a first world standard of living.

Is anything stopping them from migrating to a Central or Southern American nation and living without this so called "oppression"?

Maybe "white culture" is highly beneficial to non-whites.  How do liberals rationalize this reality?

It must be hard because people are still risking their lives to move to an "oppressive" white culture.

Shouldn't non-whites be trying to leave instead of joining this "oppressive" culture?

Giuliani Says ‘Truth Isn’t Truth’ in Defense of Trump’s Legal Strategy
Quote:

Mr. Giuliani’s phrase that “truth isn’t truth” joins Ms. Conway’s assertion in January 2017 that the White House had put forth “alternative facts” to ones reported by the news media about the size of Mr. Trump’s inauguration crowd.

Like Mr. Giuliani, Ms. Conway also made her comments on “Meet the Press.”

After the interview on Sunday, Merriam Webster tweeted the definition of “truth,” while Mr. Comey was more direct, tweeting: “Truth exists and truth matters. Truth has always been the touchstone of our country’s justice system and political life.”
