I just checked reddit now (maybe first time I've ever gone to reddit), and I saw it as one of the four stories trending today on my first visit.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

That's the generic home page, not /r/all. The trending pane is curated by reddit. If you don't use reddit, my guess is that you don't really understand how it works or what it does. The website didn't use to be curated, and the voting system wasn't manipulated by the website management, that's no longer the case. Either way, that pane has nothing to do with truly popular or noteworthy articles. As can be noted by the paid promotion by Chex Mix beside the Nick Canon article.

It popped up on my tweeterer feed.  I didn't read what he said, but I don't understand why it's relevant anyway.  Let's say that whatever it was was completely abhorrent; I don't remember anyone crowning Nick Cannon leader of the left, not even the black left.  Why should i have to defend or adopt his views?

Lets not forget, this Nick Cannon talk had it's genesis in this statement

But its Nick Cannon.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

I looked him up just now and see that he was on All That.  I watched All That, at least until i stopped watching nickelodeon but I don't remember him.  Maybe he joined that cast after I stopped watching.  I also remember the film existing but I couldn't tell you anything else about it, let alone who starred in it.

I would think it a legal liability to allow someone your age in to see the moving pictures.  Might stop your heart on the spot.  I figured that was why you liked live theater so much

I always liked All That, I still don't remember Nick Cannon. I remember other people from that show, like Kenan and Kel, and Amanda Bynes.

@Shiva: This was my other source. It was Tim Pool's first video of the day and he pulled the article from the NYT. Around the 25-30 second mark he mentions it was the top story trending on Twitter that morning. He has no reason to lie or exaggerate, so I admit I didn't go to Twitter but as I said I did check Reddit, and it was also the top page.

So what was your reason to lie or exaggerate?

Quote:

Vahn421 said:

Your reply means you likely didn't watch the video. I should have been clearer.

"This is the biggest story right now, the #1 story trending on twitter." Those were his actual words. He was making two points, not just one. I went to Reddit, where I normally go for news over Twitter, after he said what he said. Tim is a daily reporter and spends 10 hours every day reading the news. He wouldn't have said it was "the biggest story right now" if it wasn't what he was seeing everywhere.

I know you like to paint me in the worst light you possibly can relative to the words that come out of my mouth, Shiva, but you really ought to give me the benefit of the doubt sometimes. I'm not here to make shit up or embellish. I'm not sure what your intentions are, but it seems a habit of yours to take my words and create the worst version of me you can with them.

I currently reside in the Yukon and internet bandwidth is limited, so I am usually unable to view non-text sources. Apologies for taking your post at face value.

That still doesn't change the fact that these two statements: "This is the biggest story right now, the #1 story trending on twitter." -- "And yet this is the #1 story trending in all of America today." are not equivalent. Even giving you the benefit of the doubt, this still appears to amount to you being more eager to spread your talking points than to personally understand them. Is there any other explanation that avoids attributing malice to your posts?

And all that still doesn't change my original criticism: if that Nick Canon story is "the #1 story trending in all of America today" from your perspective, this speaks volumes about what type of media you consume. If the media you consume is more concerned about some racist shit a black celebrity said than it is about national anti-police protests or a global pandemic, that's problematic.

For example, let's take a look at your "trusted news source": Tim Pool. He describes himself as a "social liberal" and "left-libertarian" but his content is composed almost exclusively of rebuttal-free alt-right talking points. He is basically one of those 'centrists' who somehow always agrees with the American right on most if not all issues. Just take a look at his YouTube channel - it looks more like alt-right clickbait than a centrist media outlet:

Pool has a tendency to agree at length with a right-wing talking point, then pivot to a softball question about 'concerns'. This allows him to uphold his 'left of centre' label in the eyes of viewers like you; who are then comfortable uncritically accepting what he says as fact. You yourself have already admitted to this when you said: "Around the 25-30 second mark he mentions it was the top story trending on Twitter that morning. He has no reason to lie or exaggerate, so I admit I didn't go to Twitter".

So what exactly happened here? You uncritically believed Tim Pools claim about Twitters top trending, misinterpreted it to mean the number one news story in America that day, and then used this misapplied statistic to add weight to the evidence you brought forth in defense of your far-right assertion - which was that the Nick Canon article shows that black people want to make white people slaves.

I'm not just nitpicking you for stuff unrelated to the point - I hope that's more clear now. I just prefer to attack the root when I can, because otherwise it's always easier to speak more bullshit than to debunk it. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume you were one of those who Tim Pool and the alt-right online propaganda machine has duped and direct you to a resource where someone puts in more time than I have right now to illustrate Tim Pools dishonest debate techniques and provide a solid debunking of a few specific examples : https://www.theseventhdegree.net/news/tim-pool-the-great-pretender

And yeah I won't deny it - you put a target on your head the moment you put forth "police forces are the least worst option" as self-evident truth and then acted like attacking blm was equivalent to defending your pro-cop claims - and I can definitely be blunt when debating but guess what - this is me giving you the benefit of the doubt. I am asking questions and pushing you to better explain yourself, but you continually become defensive instead. Maybe try giving me the benefit of the doubt too, huh, and actually try to answer my questions next time.

And please, do the whole forum a favour and drop the 'poor me victim complex' - need I remind you that our first encounter was me providing you with my honest perspective, and your response - among other things - decided to dedicate an entire paragraph to talking about how I am an out-of-touch big-word-using college educated liberal:

Quote:

I can tell you're college educated at a liberal school, because you use a lot of big, useless vocabulary words instead of speaking in plain and simple terms (not a fan), and you link to a lot of sources (I do like that), but you seem completely disconnected from reality regarding the consequences/aftermath of CHAZ and the national rioting. I'm sure you got 100% on all your papers, though. Unfortunately, getting A's in class doesn't translate into understanding the cause-and-effect of your actions in the real world. I could have told you all of this was going to happen BEFORE it did, but most humans aren't bright enough, so they're having to watch it play out first.
