Not sure the pics show the discoloration well enough.

Upon more thorough inspection, I fear the worst. Was left untouched 10 days post spawning then started leaving lid off completely for 4-5 hours before bed for 2-3 days now? Lots of side pins though. Something is better than nothing. The results of my first agar, grain spawn, and bulk.

Did you up your misting once leaving the lid off? Side pins are forming because the microclimate on the edge. Your top surface has no moisture. The spots you talk of are from it being dry. You only need enough FAE for evaporation to take place. Leaving the lid off you are just losing all your moisture in the substrate.

Ya upped misting was babysitting it. Perhaps not well enough. Since I had the option to devote the attention to it, I figured I’d try introducing massive fae by removing lid completely as Bod talks about doing in his unmod tek.

There's nothing wrong with lidless so long as you maintain needed moisture levels

And there is a benefit - additional oxygen

But yeah, it looks dry but those are small photos where we can't see the entire surface so its hard to make a judgment

Even if it looks dry, it is still evaporating from surface so long as there is moisture present.. if the tub is still heavy, then it still has lots of moisture inside. You still don't want to let the surface dry up though
