ID request - Possible wood ear
    #25226134 - 05/24/18 05:22 PM (5 years, 9 months ago)

Is this a wood ear mushroom?

Found growing on a mixture of bark and sawdust.

Didn't try to take a spore print (if that's even possible) and didn't save it.

It's a Peziza species. Wood ear is Auricularia, right?

Thanks for the quick reply.  Yes, the wood ear I was hoping/thinking of was either Auricularia auricula-judae or Auricularia polytricha but your ID looks closer to it.

Looking online I would guess Peziza succosa since wikipedia says in the United States, this type of cup fungi may also be found on decaying deciduous wood which would be what the bark and sawdust was from and  pictures of that one looks pretty close to what I found.
